The petition is an effort by Trek fans to have Paramount make a DVD
director edition for Star Trek 5. It seems that Shatner has said they
are not planning to do so.

The word "set" comes to mind. As in after putting out a directors
edition for Trek movies 1-4........they are suddenly going
to stop?
What about all the fans that wanted to have a set of the Trek
director edition films? Guess they do not care.
As we all know, Trek 5 was far from the best of the Trek movies,
but that did not stop them from putting it into other sets of Trek
movies, such as the 6 TOS box set on VHS and the DVD editons,
as well as those sets with the first 3 movies are the director edition
and the rest (all the way to Insurrection) have little in the way of
bonus material. Guess Trek 5 was good enough for those sets, just
not good enough for a director edition.

Don't even try to make sense of the decisions Paramount makes........

If the ST5 directors edition were to have the script that Shatner originaly was going for, that would be good. (plenty of fighting both ground and space along with a better plot)
"If the facts are on your side, pound on the facts. If the law is on your side, pound on the law. If neither is on your side, pound on the table."

"The captain claimed our people violated a 4,000 year old treaty forbidding us to develop hyperspace technology. Extermination of our planet was the consequence. The subject did not survive interrogation."

If you read Shatner's book, "Movie Memories" it become apparent that he didn't quite get what he wanted for that movie. The production budget shrunk, some creatures and villains were scrapped and his script was changed. Who knows, Shatner's original idea would have probably been much better.

Well, I signed the petition. There's no way he could make it any WORSE. I read his book, too. I think that he could maybe save it from being the worst Trek movie ever. Unless one of the TNG films has that titles now. I have no idea about them.

I keep trying to say that the movie is more of a comedy and satire than an actual ST movie.

Only the first two were Directors edition the other two were Collectors editions.

Actually, they could just label it "bland tape" and sell it that way.

You do realize the only reason the humor was in ST5 was because Paramount shoved it down Shatner's throat? They were so paranoid that a serious ST movie would be panned after ST4 that they insisted Shatner lighten it up.
