I've been thinking about the possibilities and implications of a cyberpunk character in Star Trek. Nothing like the Borg, however, I'm thinking along the lines of Shadowrun or Neuromancer tech and culture. It could be cool to see that sort of black market culture in the Trek galaxy. Deckers breaking into computer systems, riggers taking control of shuttlecraft and other vehicles . . .

They already have something like a decker. In the DS9 episode where O'Brien goes undercover for the Syndicate they have a guy that can hack into computer with an implant on his neck.

Cyberpunk in Star Trek would be a contradiction.

Do not mention Cyberpunk and Star Trek PLEASE. For a cyberpunk look and feel nothing and I mean NOTHING beats Blade Runner

Street Samurai would own a squad of red shirts. All they need are a few Predator heavy pistols and a wire from the gun into their Cyber Jacks. We are salking about Shadow Run Street Samurai?

But seriously, folks. Putting wireheads in a Trek setting is the kiss of death. For them at least. They'd get geeked by the first M-5 they jack into. Not exactly ICE, but the outcome is the same. Lay off the stim, trog.

Jack out and smell the soycaff chummer. Cyberdeckers and Street Samurai have no place in ST. But on that note i would like to see Shadowrun brought to it;s own series, Surely one of the books could be made into a tv series. I kept my SNES and ny Mega Drive/Genesis so i could keep playing the Shadowrun games. IIRC the Hacker we saw on DS9 got brain fried.

There is cyberpunk in star trek, just very, very little. The real problom is that Federation Computers are so open. Anyone could get in, you don't need to be a cyberpunk.

Obviously the Feddies and Klingons would never think about cybertech. The Feddies would piss themselves over the "morality" of jamming tech into your body and the Klingons are really anti-tech. I'm surprised the Romulans or the Ferengi haven't at least thought about it. The Borg just revel in cybertech it seems.

Shadowrun is a bit out there (especially with the magic bit) so that's why I included Neuromancer. Neuromancer is at least a bit more realistic world to work with. Although Shadowrun magic would make for funny scenes.
