I watched Star Trek IV last night.

I watch TVH last night, I was basically too tired to try to find the remote to turn the TV off, I was expecting a crapfest, but for once, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was, having not seen it for a year, I was expecting all sorts of bad writing and the such.
Instead I was blown away again, I watched with a sense of nostalgia the old crew pottering about in 1986, Chekhov trying to find nuclear wessels, Scotty inventing transparent aluminium, McCoy's opinions of 20th century medicing, it was all good, Spock swimming with whales one of the highlights.
And the best part?
Neither B or B were there, sure there were people whose last name started with B, but they appear not to be related to the B's we know so IMO they should continue their lives violence free.
Alas I am now more annoyed with new Trek, none of the feel of the old, being able to tell it is all CG is worse than seeing strings or the like. I knwo this has all been said, now I want to say it to.
Bring back old Trek!

ST: IV owns. So does ST: II. And ST: VI.
All other Treks can bite me.

I was under the impression that most people considered ST:IV to be stupid or pointless

No. Of all of the ST movies, it did the best.

I think Undiscovered Country was tied with WoK for best.

It may not have been very ST-ey, with future stuff and all, but it was still a fun adventure for the crew. Especially with what happened in STII and STIII.

IV was the most audience-friendly of the ST films, which is what allowed it to get the highest gross.
You might be thinking of V.
IV is very good, but my favourite is still VI.

IV = The Voyage Home
V = The Final Frontier
I know my Star Trek, thank you.

IV was enjoyable. Sure there was no battle, but it takes place in "our" world and in the Bay Area of all places. Its always fun to see how movies portray local landmarks.

The scene in the bus with the punk rocker and his blaring ghetto blaster cracks me up EVERY time.

The hospital chase scene usually gives me the giggles.

I saw it yesterday with the SE DVD commentary, Nimoy and Shatner. I must say Shatner came off as a pompous ass and Nimoy was so cool and down to earth. He had great insights into the way the movie was done and choices made in plotlines, Shatner focussed on the save the whale issue and the importance of the main charcters in episodic TV. If Shatner's commentary is a taste of what we're going to get in the ST:V SE DVD then I shudder.

The main theme of ST4 is also one of my all-time favorites.

That song was so hilarious. Too bad it's not real...

As a neat bit of trivia the punk guy actually sang it too.

I get a kick out of the part where they go raid the "Enterprise".
The place where they were looking at the ship in dock is right off the tarmac next to the air strip. People don't generally "hang out" there although I suppose it is possible. Plus, unless they beamed on I'd like to know how they got on the base. Actually, now that I think about it they may have been able to weasle through if they rode an extremely packed bus on base and the guard was careless.
Besides, it was the USS
Ranger a
Forestall class non-nuclear carrier that stood in for the
Big E.
Still a fun movie though.

They wanted to use the real Big E, but it was at sea at the time. Still, no big loss.
*wipes out nostalgic tears*
Hmm, it's been years since I've seen any of the TOS movies, but I've got them all on tape. Perhaps it's time for a little Star Trek movie marathon.

And you know something else?
Non of the ships exploded like firecrackers cos they lost mainpower, and back up power when the Whale Probe slapped them with an energy dampening field.
