The Episode "Rascals"

I was Watching the Episode "Rascals" and it raised several questions.
The first thing was that a detailed plan(including the location of Jefferies Tubes) of the Enterprise was stored in the Computer in the "playroom." What's up with that!? Why would anyone have such information is a obviousally unsecure computer?
The Second is the Transporters turning the group into kids but that has been already been discused.
The Third and most shocking to me was that the Feringi boarded the ship unopposed. The Federation Security forces did not even have their weapons with them while on duty! No one was carrying a single side arm except on the bridge. What is the Federation thinking?
The Fourth is the Feringi were defeated by a group of children. They were lead by children that thought like adults, but still. The whole reason they were defeated was that the Feringi that was guarding the "kids" left his post to chase a toy! What was up with that?! Any good guard KNOWS THAT YOU DO NOT LEAVE YOU POST NO MATTER WHAT!
Discuss!

Perhaps this was the start of the transition from the early TNG warlike Feringi to the capitalist wimps in DS9.

That's the least of it. The fact that they were able to take the ship in the first place with over 1000 people on it with only a handful of them actually boarding is silly!

I also thought it funny that Picard didn't like the Idea of going back to the Academy with Wesley Crusher!

I think that the playroom computer is tied in to the major computer core, so probably anything can be accessed from it if one has the proper clearance.
Also, Worf had a phaser on the bridge when the Ferengi boarded. He fired it at the Ferengi but missed by about 6 feet. How can the head security officer be that bad of a shot?

Well the toony look of the plans meant that it was intended for the playroom as some type of teaching aid. "shakes Head"

Don't forget when Riker briefed the Ferengi engineer. It was a total wank-fest. Riker made stuff up left and right and the Ferengi engineer somehow didnt notice?

This is even more bizarre, since Riker was able to fiddle with a Ferengi ship's engines in "Ménage à Troi" to embed a distress signal (of sorts) in the subspace static that it created. Since Riker was able to do that without any direct knowledge of Ferengi engines or control systems (indicative of the general similarity of ALL Trek tech), it would take a pretty damned stupid Ferengi to be fooled by his nonsense jargon in "Rascals".

How come after theft ("The Last Outpost") unprovoked attack ("Peak Performance") and now this, the Feds never went to war with the Ferengi?

Because the Feds are a bunch of pussies who don't fight unless an enemy is about to bomb Earth itself. OK, maybe thats a slight exaggeration.

Picard throwing a tantrum, however was bloody hilarious.

Those were not agents of the Ferengi government, they were more like pirates. They said that in the episode; they had nothing to do with the Ferengi Alliance.

Just Like Drake was not a

I am going to have to disagree with you. Nice Red Herring, by the way. You cannot hold a government responsible for its rebels.

The Ferengi were defeated by just four kids; this on top of a ship with 1000 crew being commandeered by a boarding party of just six to begin with.
The stupidities of this episode are just too numerous to go through, beginning with the main one which demonstrates why having children on the starship in the first fucking place was a bad idea, giving us nothing but dopey episodes like this one and "Imaginary Friend".

Their was a referance to this episode on Deep Space Nine. Worf was complaining to Odo about the apparent lack of security on Deep Space Nine after his quarters were broken into. Worf says that he never would have allowed security to be so lax on the Enterprise. Odo replies by giving Worf a list of times security had been compromised. Among the incidents cited, was the time the "Ferengi took over the ship."

Not Really Drake was a Privateer. That means he is a English sanctioned pirate. Now if he had ever been caught by the Spanish then the English would have said he was just a Rouge Pirate and they had nothing to do with it. The Spanish would have still declared war.

Isolder, for fuck's sake, we're not talking about the English and the Spanish. Watch "Rascals" again; the Ferengi specifically said they have nothing to do with their government. They were rogues!
Your style of argumentation would make a creationist cringe! You followed Red Herring with a Strawman.

That does not mean the Ferengi were Privateers.

So what were they doing in Federation Territory? How did they escape notice from their security network?

Isolder, I know you are not this dumb. They were simply rogue Ferengi, that acquired Klingon ships (that does not mean the Klingons were in on it, either) and they wanted a Federation ship.

And what could they possibly do with a Federation Starship? It would not take the Federation long to track it and them down. The Klingons would have issues with them too I think. The only thing that bugs me is these were birds of prey how did they even drop the Enterprises shields anyway? Doesn't the ship outgun both of them togather?

Isolder74 wrote:And what could they possibly do with a Federation Starship?
Their stated intention was to sell it to the Romulans.
Isolder74 wrote:It would not take the Federation long to track it and them down.
But the Federation would have to catch them before they reached Romulan territory.

Supposedly, but they did execute a proper ambush.

Correction: they
claimed to be rogues.
