Worf, son of Mog

Post by Ted C »

Just observing that Worf's "full name" is yet another Klingon/Viking parallel.

In the course of some SCA research, I've noted that a Viking/Norse name is typically composed of a personal name and a patronymic. Norse typically also acquired some "bynames" during life (like "One Eye" or "Red Beard") that would fit between the personal name and the patronym.

Klingons apparently use the same naming convention.

-- The King of Swamp Castle, Monty Python and the Holy Grail

"Nothing of consequence happened today. " -- Diary of King George III, July 4, 1776

"This is not bad; this is a conspiracy to remove happiness from existence. It seeks to wrap its hedgehog hand around the still beating heart of the personification of good and squeeze until it is stilled."
-- Chuck Sonnenburg on Voyager's "Elogium"

*gets a cookie for Ted*
Thank you for pointing out the painfully obvious Ted, I might have missed it otherwise, enjoy your cookie.

I might ad that if you cant see how TNG Klingons were lifted right out of a English prayerbook, where they lament the evil and barbaric 'Northmen' , I exile you to the outer plain of history knowledge hell, right next to Kenny G and Noam Chomsky. Have a nice day, and please come again. :P

As a person with Viking ancestors I find the Klingon-Viking parallel disgraceful and stupid. ;)

To prevent further errors it's Mogh not Mog.

Actually, it was this way surnames started.
