How many people here actually liked Nemesis? I thought it was okay, myself. I liked it better than FC.

There were numerous plot holes and inconsistencies, however. With B & B in charge, you just take what you can get. And did anyone else notice the blatant Prime Directive violation?

It wasn't a great movie, but it was a fun movie. Something that is enjoyable and easy to like is a bonus as far as I am concerned.

It was watchable- it was one of those "it sucks, but stuff it I'll sit and watch it" movies.

it would make a great sfi fi movie but isn't a great star trek movie if you get my drift...

Nope. But the movie was awful. More character assasination of Worf, idiotic character interaction, pointless scenes (dune buggies) lame action scenes (Dukes of Hazard flying thru the "haunted house" window) no real conflict, no real MEANING.

Maybe it was because I knew before I went to see it that it wasnt going to be a fantastic film, but even though I enjoyed watching it, as I do most films, I spent half the time thinking about all the plot holes, missed opportunities and downright stupid ideas in the film.

The biggest problem that springs to mind is currently:

In a brand spanking new, gleaming starship, representing the peak of federation design, why there was still a nice darkened area with a big bottomless pit to fall down? What were the designers thinking?

What, Admiral? Oh, that, no, we've put that there in case the sovereign class gets boarded by aliens and we have to have a fight scene. Hmm? Well, yes, I suppose we could just negate the health hazard by investing in some proper security forces and weapons. But we're not going to.

I liked it

Even if it was silly.

Usually trek movies fail because they don't balance the matter of being a 'movie' and being 'trek' ... either too much trek or too much departure. In the case of NEM, I don't think it delivers much of EITHER feeling.

There's a vaguely movie-like feel to some of the later action, the preparing for battle bit and then the intercutting of the the Riker fight with the ludicrous reversing engines to pull free, but they manage to talk so much of the flick to death it just boggles the mind at the wasted possibilities.

Even with practically no money at all, KHAN managed to straddle the 'trek' and 'movie' notions nicely (though to be fair it pretty much desecrated or eliminated all the science fiction, an unfortunate model for most post TMP trek on screen or tube.)

I quite liked first contact, even if it wasn't too well thought out. I like most films with a big war at the beginning.

It was so damned awful that it was actually amusing to watch . . . when I wasn't wincing.

Why I disliked it?
Because they took in new villains out of their asses and strapped them in. Replaced the bad guys the Romulans to Remans.
I saw no purpose in the Remans or why the Romulan military leaders were so eager to follow Shinzon so blindly and allow him to assassin the political leaders of the Romulan senate.
And allow Shinzon to have access to a ship of that size and power freely roaming Romulan space territory is beyond me.
Why the hell not did the civilians do anything? Would they just stand by and watch this shit happen?
And the Shinzon's ship was just another "Threat to Earth" in what we have seen in The Motion Picture, Voyage Home, First Contact etc. It has become boring and complete dull to see the same thing all over again. It was totally predictable, knowing the ship would never reach Earth before it was destroyed. To me the movie was stupid and pointless. It had nothing new to offer what we haven't already seen before.

To me it left with questions unanswered. Good thing I downloaded instead of buying tickets to it knowing well it would go to B&B pockets.

I really enjoyed it.

Another magically created race that probably will be forgetten forever with a superweapon pointed at Earth. Man, aren't they original. Try to badly copy STII, and you have Nemesis.

It was really sad to think the Romulans, one of the great traditional Trek villians, would take back seat to a bunch of random vampires and a prematurely balding guy in a plastic suit with an inferiority complex.

I liked it when I saw it the first time because my expectations were so low. It's just another popcorn movie in the godawful tradition of First Contact and Insurrection.

It had its moments and was good in terms of enjoyment.

I believe this was fleshed out more in the script but the scene was cut for whatever reason. Basically someone explains or hints at why the PD wount be violated by going down to the planet.

I enjoyed the movie. I thought the ship battle at the end was great, even with all the inconsistencies, and stupid moments.

I liked it. An obvious clone of Wrath of Khan as everbody knows,
but a case could be made that if the fans like that storyline,
perhaps it would work again, with the TNG crew.
As for plot gaps and so on, I don't really sit on the edge of my
seat trying to pick apart movies, I just want to enjoy them, but
even I noticed that the Remans should have sent more than a
handful of guys to invade the Enterprise.

It mauled my Romulans.

I thought it was so bad I stopped watching it 2/3rds through the movie.

it was a fun popcorn movie. i saw it on an idle tuesday afternoon a few weeks after opening. i will say , however, that B&B wasted a lot of good opportunities and rehashed a lot of tired cliches.

Yes it wasn’t that bad, it was worse!

No seriously, it was entertainment that I don’t think was a waste of my time to go see. I won’t ever be renting or buying though. And I doubt I'd watch it if shown on TV.

It would have been a lot better if Picard had failed and Skippy had managed to fight his way through the fleet at the neutral zone and used the superweapon on Earth (and no time travel or technobabble to get out of it--everythingon Earth actually DOES die). THAT would have been daring and unexpected. We got mediocre instead.

or at least a major fleet engagement and a partial use of the Uber-radiation of Doom on earth or at least Mars.

Yes, but than it couldn't have been a tipical ST movie. They prefer to stick to one-on-one ship fights, though you are right.
