Fed ships in Endgame

Post by generator_g1 »

Finally, our local TV channel showed the last episode of Voyager. While the story seemed so-so, I was more interested in the ships that they cobbled together in the end. How many Fed ship classes were there? I only recognized the Defiant and Galaxy classes, any more?

Harry Kim's ship was a Sovereign class, right?

There were Excelsior, Defiant, Galaxy, Nebula, Akira, Steamrunner, and Prometheus class ships in the few fleet scenes.

I think it was a much smaller exploration vessel, same class as the Equinox if i'm not mistaken

It was a Nova class. Apparently at some point, they'll refit the ship and alter the hull abit.

It was the USS Rhode Island and it looked exactly like a Nova class, however it had a hell of a lot more firepower than the Equinox. It faced off against 2 larger Klingon warships of an unknown class. IIRC The Nova class is an offshoot of the Defiant Pathfinder project. maybe the Rhode Island is a leftover testbed ship or something.

Or they suped up their ships a bit, because of all the data and tech Voyager brought back.

Those two kligon ships looked a lot like a Neghvar. If I am correct than the Rhode Island can not be a Nova. During 2370s Neghvars were the one of the most powerful ships in the alpha quadrant. Given how the Rhode Island's phasers damaged those ships it could be a new class perhaps an upgraded Nova.

This is a little off topic, but doesn't Gordi get a Galaxy later?

In an alternate timeline, yes. (I would speculate he will in the "real" one too).

:P

dramatic punch

which is more pleasing....a full on fight where everything they can possibly fire is firing. How long would it last I wonder?....about several moments at most...

If they go the single phaser route...they can draw out any battle that happens..and probably also fire and rapid succession too

Here is an interesting idea...
Would a phaser strip, supplied with adequate power, be able to fire from every spot on the strip? A Phaser Wall.

Even teh Soverign couldn't fire everything it had at the same time...the power requirements would probably be through the roof...

besides...they've no fuses. One surge and pop goes the starship..

That's why I said with adequate power.

Also I have a theory, the consoles themselves act as fuses. Ya I guess that is wrong but it is funny... well at leas to me

I doubt there's any kind of ship they could ever design that could manage it (that isn't poorly armed anyway)

Perhaps a star base could if it rerouted everything it had available.

:P

they need the consoles though to fly the bloody thing

Yeah, 2370s. That scene with the Rhode Island doesn't take place in the 2370s, hell, it doesn't even take place in the 2300s.

Was the Prometheus the one with the 4 nacelles?

The (apparently) one and only. :) We get 2 clear shots of the Prometheus, one when the Fed fleet is approaching the Borg portal near Sol, then again when the Fed feet is escorting Voyager back to Earth.

I've never heard of a Prometheus with less than 4 nacelles in joined configuration. And her lines are pretty hard to mistake for any other class even without her distinctive quad nacelle design.

Why does it have four anyways? Its not like it adds to the speed, and power generation is handled by the M/A-M Combustion Chamber.

Maybe redundancy?

Something to do with geometry. The nacelles supposedly create the "field" which moves the ship, so their physical location is actually important.

That's the in-universe explanation, which sounds better than "the art design guys thought it would look cool".

Or because it splits into three independent ships and each has to have warp capability.
