Was TOS warp drives depedante on subspace like ships from TNG/VOY/DS9 era?

If it wasn't then why did they add it in their treknology?

Yes, they do. They have mentioned it in "Is There in Truth No Beauty" with a noncorp race that could orient themselves in subspace which ended up saving the ship.
