Do we know when it was first launched? Not when the Feds found out about it, but when it was first launched.

Where are the weapons and what are they? I have a rough idea because of Bridge Commander but I want to be sure.

How nimble would it be compared to an Ambassador?

It is a B type (Defector) . Presumably what the Ent-C was destroyed by was an A type warbird.

How would it compare with an Ambassador? Given that a galaxy is considered amazing by the Ent -C crew, and a D'Deridex is at least on a par with and more of a dedicated warship than an original Galaxy, it would slaughter an ambassador in short order.

They do seem fairly manuverable for their behemothic size, and can fire no less than three pulsed disruptor shots per second (Defector again)

The weapons are numerous disruptors, and doubtless considerable torpedo firepower, with a forward weapons bias.

We don't know when they were first launched.

The center disruptor on the "head" of the bird can fire both beams and pulses, right?

I'm not sure if there is a central one, in the defector they come from various locations.

I think the beams are in The Pegasus, which I haven't seen in a while.

The D'deridex class Warbird was first seen TNG "the defector". That would be 2365 in trek timeline. Interestingly it was called a B type Warbird. May be other variants of the Warbird exists. No information is available on when they were launched.

Though the exact numbers are unknown they seem to have disruptors, disruptors cannons and photon torpedoes.

The bridge area seemed to fire only disruptor beams in "message in a bottle'. The disruptor cannons seemed to located on the wing tips.

DS9 tech manual indicates a top speed of warp 9. However since Picard said that the Enterprise-D is a little faster than a Warbird the top speed must be higher.

In terms of strength they are stronger than pre war Galaxy with stronger shields and twice the frontal firepower. An Ambassador would be ripped apart by a Warbird.

I must mention that we must determine if there is a difference from the Ent-C and the modern day Ambassadors.


It is unreasonable to assume that the modern day Ambassadors weren't equipped with more advanced weapons.

How is that "unreasonable?" We have no evidence that they were equipped with better weapons than the original specs called for, thus we should assume that no upgrade has taken place until we have at least SOME evidence that the ships were overhauled.

The D'deridex was first seen in the TNG year one episode "The Neutral Zone."

The "B-type" warbirds may be a reference to a Star Trek TNG RPG the now defunct FASA company put out. It didn't last long; FASA was only contracted to produce RPG's based specifically on the original series, so I guess they did the TNG one in the hopes that a contract would be forthcoming. It was not. Paramount put the kabosh on them pretty quickly. The inevitable TNG RPGs were then re-done by other companies.

That is a false assumption to make. We already know from the TMs as well as canon information that Trek ships undergoe upgrades and refits under a fairly regular cycle of five and ten years. Logicaly to keep older ships still on level ground with modern ships, they will be upgraded with newer weapon systems. Do you really think we were seeing original flight Excelsiors and Mirandas? Why assume the Ambassador was original stock version and not the other ships? Hell, we do know there are two versions of the Ambassador (they dropped the E-C model on the floor breaking it and they had to make a new one and there are slight differences in the model).
