Are there any good ST Games? And if not are there any that are good after being modded?

Bridge Commander was fun for half an hour.
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.
Go to www.bcfiles.com or www.dreamartspro.com and get some mods for Bridge Commander, makes it fun again

Star Trek Armada and Armada II were both good, Armada becomes even better with its Star Wars vs. Star Trek mod.

If you're talking about the so-called "1.2 patch," then don't listen to him everyone. All it does is add horribly balanced models and Borg uber-ships. Feel the joy of flailing about in some weird Romulan design as your ultra-nimble craft meets Romulan sluggish speeds. Also applies to Klingon craft. And Federation craft. Especially that nasty Defiant, where firing accurately is like trying to place an icon on a specific pixel with the mouse's sensativity jacked way up. Oops, your PPCs are drained and the nasty-looking Excelsior is beating the crap out of you!Drach wrote:Go to www.bcfiles.com or www.dreamartspro.com and get some mods for Bridge Commander, makes it fun again
Don't download the "1.2 patch."

For tactical starship combat, get any of the Starfleet Command series (Starfleet Command, Starfleet Command II: Empires at War, Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates, and Starfleet Command III) The first 3 are set in the TMP era, with the latest set in the post DS9- pre Nemesis era. Very good games if you want to feel like you're actually commanding multi million ton capital ships in combat.
Bridge Commander is ok, but it becomes truely outstanding once you get it modded up. There are ships out there that are damn near photo realistic, and you can set up battles that could almost appear to be a live action DS9 episode with the right mods put in. Hell, there's even a mod out now that impliments a Galaxy classes saucer separation, something the original stock game wasn't really even designed to handle. The mods for this game are just amazing, and they are both plentiful and very well done in nearly every case. Check them out for yourselves at BCFiles.

EF I was fun, if a tad short. I've only played the demo of EF 2, so I can't comment on that one.
Both Armadas were a pleasant diverson, but both become far better with the implimentation of mods.

Personally I've never tried the multiship patches, probably never will. I download the ships I want, and if they 'feel right' I'll let em stay as is. If not I'll further mod the ships to my tastes. There's ALOT of mods on these sites, not just that one. If you'd care to actually, um, like look and stuff, you may not come across as such a freakin retard, at least not to meStarshipTitanic wrote:If you're talking about the so-called "1.2 patch," then don't listen to him everyone. Starfleet command...up till three were good but a bit buggy.
SC3 for me suffered that too few ships honestly. In parts 1&2 there were a lot and varied ships...in part three each side gets 5-6 ships.

Bridge Commander got old real fast.
A Final Unity was great Star Trek TNG gaming.
Oh, and Elite Force may be a passable shooter, but as Star Trek it utterly fails.

A Final Unity... not played that in years... used to love ramming into the Warbirds... would zoom into Romulan space just to fight them, lol. Sometimes I'd kill three at once, sometimes... well, bye bye Enterprise.
I also loved blowing up Ensign Stupid Voice on that capacitor.
But my preferred Trek game is Armada (the original), in particular with the Star Trek V Starwars mod and the Babylon 5 mod. Those two mods rule.
Anyone fancy a game of STVSW?

I remember that game, it was pathetic.
I read an article about it, and then heard nothing for a long time. I thought the idea was scrapped.

It definitely stunk!Embracer Of Darkness wrote:Nah, the game was released. Bloody awful it was.Darksider wrote:I read an article about it, and then heard nothing for a long time. I thought the idea was scrapped.
I liked the original ST: Armada a LOT. I'm a beta tester for "Project: Armada," which does an incredible mod. P:A's made a real effort to reflect ship abilities as they're depicted on the shows, and the battles...wow. You can fight single player campaigns in which you have to destroy 1,200 enemy ships before finally winning. It's great!
Armada 2 was alright. It was much improved in many respects but I've never played a good mod for the thing. The AI is always way too weak.
I guess SFC 3 was okay. It was too short, maybe not ambitious enough for my tastes. Dominion Wars was not good. I wanted to like it...alas. It sucked.
I guess Bridge Commander is alright, but unmodded, its ship-to-ship action is about retarded IMO. I mean, a SCOUT-type Bird-of-Prey has shields superior to a WARBIRD?!
Elite Force 1 was pretty cool. Large parts of it didn't have much of a ST "feel," however, as previously noted in this thread.
