Why oh Stek Trek? Why?

I was just checking out the new release dates over at Digital Bits, and apparently Star Trek V CE DVD will be coming out this year, while the much superior Star Trek VI CE will not come out until 2004. WHAT IS FUCKING WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE! How the hell do they release V before VI? V is shit, pure, simple and stinky. VI is my favorite of the films, and I'd imagine very few here would rank it less than third of the ten. Yet I have to wait till 2004 to get the collector's edition while I, III, and V get the go ahead. This sucks where no man has sucked before!

They will do all the bad ones first (the odd numbered ones). Then they will never release the good ones (the even ones). Why?

Because its B&B.

Hmmm they released 1,2,3,4 and now 5 hmm I know there is a pattern here but I just can't see it  .

Paramount are releasing the DVD's in order they were made so why complain about it? and there is nothing wrong with them this release pattern actually makes sense.

Star Trek 1: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition [1979]
Paramount Home Entertainment (UK)
DVD - 6 May, 2002

Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan - Directors Edition (Two Disc Set) [1982]
Paramount Home Entertainment (UK)
DVD - 18 November, 2002

Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock -- Two Disc Special Edition [1984]
Paramount Home Entertainment (UK)
DVD - 13 January, 2003

Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home (Special Edition)
Paramount Home Entertainment (UK)
DVD - 2 June, 2003

I was going off the UK dates which as you see are in order although I don't trust your release dates since the Motion Picture Directors edition is listed as coming out earlier.

http://www.dvdmoviecentral.com/ReviewsT ... icture.htm
http://www.trektoday.com/news/291101_01.shtml

At the above places and far more if you do a search, your search for Spock date is also off according to the above places and here
http://www.startrek.com/news/productnews.asp?ID=125914

Anyway as I say I was under the impression that the US releases were in the same order as the UK ones and apologise if they weren't (although I am rather sure that the Motion picture came out when the above links say it did and not when your release dates say).

Where the hell did you get those release dates from? I rented the TMP Director's edition back when I was still living with my old roommate. I moved out of that place in January of 2002.

Those release dates are certainly not true. I got TMP DE (R1) for Christmas 2001, and it was purchased right after Thanksgiving about a month before.

According to DVDFILE.com, the Region 1 release dates for the ST film sets have been as follows:
ST1 (TMP) DE: November 6, 2001
ST2 (TWOK) DE: August 6, 2002
ST3 (TSFS) CE: October 22, 2002 (from Digital Bits)
ST4 (TVH) CE: March 4, 2003

I can accept the TMP date just being a typo, as it's the same as the STIV date, but it's clear that STIII was released on R1 months before STIV, and the films have been released in numerical order.

I was going off Amazon.com's info. I was quite certain that I remember the DVDs not coming out in order. Oh well, if you guys are right, then you guys are right. It still pisses me off though that I have to wait for 2004 to get VI.

You must be kidding. Star Trek 6? The Final Frontier? Are we on the same page here? Next to ST: II, ST: VI is the greatest Star Trek film of all time.

I've been through this before with people. I hated it. It shocks people, I know, but I enjoy TMP much more.
Best thing in ST VI were the K'T'inga closeups.
For me, that is. :?

I forget, does Amazon list new dates when they do price drops? Because some sites do.

Frankly, I like Star Trek 5 better than ANY of the TNG films. It's simply more fun as a movie to watch.

I wonder if Star Trek 6 will be a full Director's Edition as TWOK was, or just a "Special Edition".

I don't think so. Amazon sometimes messes up or they get stuff quite some time after the release dates. I remember having to wait like a month or two to get my copies of the Akira volumes that I didn't buy at the local bookstore.

But I think in this case, it's just a typo.

Why is ST:6 revered as the second-best movie? It drags for so long and ends in an anticlimactic battle. Was I missing something? :?

Drama, political intrigue and suspense make the movie good.

At the beginning, I'd say yes. After a while, this slowly disappeared, IMO.

I don't quite know when the suspense vanished in ST6. There was plenty
of it as I recall. Guessing who Spock would name in the mind meld,
the race to the peace talks, I thought there was suspense all the way
through.

Who was Spock naming again, I forget. The "race" to the peace talks wasn't that eventful, by then you should have just assumed they'd come and save the day.

I sill wish they would have used Saviik as the betrayer. Not that Kim Catrall didn't look hot as Valleris but it would have had more emotional impact having a long term character betray Spock like that.

Of course that would have had even more emotional impact if she'd been the mother of his child from his Pon Far on the Genesis planet. :?

So many missed opportunities. :(

After a mind meld, Spock named the conspirators who were planning
to wreck the peace talks. The race to the conference was not the only
point of suspense either. There was also the ship wide man hunt, and
also Kirk and McCoy's break from the prison into the snow. They got
caught and Kirk was nearly shot. There was plenty of suspense.

I think knowing that all Star Trek ends well ruined any suspence for me.
