Interesting Phaser effect

Post by Grand Admiral Thrawn »

In the episode "Worst Case Senario" a holographic Janeway is killed when holo-Seska makes a phaser "malfunction" and Tuvok does the same to Holo-Seska later. This "malfunction" caused them to glow green and IIRC, vaporize.

A very interesting malfunction.

Well, the effect, that a malfuctioning phaser vaporises a person is nothing really new. It also happend also to the homeless man in the TOS episode "The city on the edge of forever". His maipulations on McCoys phaser caused a malfunction, which made him vanish. (He did not shot, but a hum is heared, before a vanished. So he must have caused a malfunction)

But of course, it is interesting, that the same can happen to holograms. That could be interesting for further discussions about that technology....

I always assumed he shot himself, but I haven't seen the episode in a while.

Nope. He did not shot himself. The humming started after he carelessly manipulated McCoys phaser. The humming became louder and louder and then he vanished. Hed he fired, he would have simply vanished without any of the other effects. ANd by the way, we also don't hear the sound of a fireing phaser.

Green? Are you sure? I thought it was orange.

(fake voice) Oh, well lets go find some space anomaly today that'll rip it apart!

This was presumably the phaser going off on overload.
