Picard is an Idiot

I just watched the spectacular Babylon 5 episode involving a particularly tense standoff between Babylon 5 and a Centauri battleship; for those not in the know, the confrontation ends with the battleship opening fire on Babylon 5, a wing of fighters, and another heavy cruiser from another race. Captain Sheridan, of course, returned fire and destroyed the battleship. The whole battle was done with notable CGI and was quite exciting and fun to watch.

Then I flip to an episode of TNG. They're under attack, but the attack is not actually shown; the bridge just shakes a bit and there's a 'damage report'. Also, Picard refuses to return fire.

I like an episode where Tasha Yar is captured by some Africans and must fight to the death to get supplies to save billions of people. Throughout the episode, the Enterprise got messages telling them of the millions of people ALREADY DYING. BEAM IT UP YA PANSIES! :banghead:

Picard rarely returned fire, I am suprised he returned fire in Nemesis when the Schimitart opened fire on them, instead of hailing them and trying to talk it out.

I agree with Turbo. There was probably a good reason for it.

Arrogance of power.

So the natives in their canoe threw a spear at my battleship, should i warm up the 16" guns and return fire?

Then there is the times when the native spears turn out to be tipped with thermonukes but that problem is for the technobabble to sort out

We've known for ages that Starfleet is packed with tactical and strategic imbeciles. They think they're a non-military organization.

IMO, Babylon 5 is superior to Star Trek in almost every aspect. Just my opinion, though...

disagree with me, and you shall die a most terrible death...

"If Captain Picard had just replicated some damn gauss rifles, none of this would have happened!"
- Ensign Lynch, just before assimilation by the Borg Collective in Star Trek: First Contact

But they aren't as flashy and full of technobabble crap as phasers are, therefore they are inferior.

Besides that would have shown Intellegent Planning on the part a Federation Officer. When does that ever happen in a world where they have diplomats and philosophers as ship captians!

Why is it you make disparaging remarks about this? Picard, makes mistakes. He is human. Except for that 'The Last Outpost' one, he has never held back when it was necessary.

And Sisko instantly springs to mind as a good tactician.

Starfleet may have considered themselves non-military before The Borg threat, but they snapped their asses into gear.
The Feds are peaceful by nature, but wont walk away from a fight if they are threatened. I refer you to the entire Dominion war, both Borg encounters, Voyager's numerous scraps with 'aliens of the week'.

Say what you will about Janeway, but she got her ship home.

Its not stupidity on Picards side.

Its rather brillant of him.

He knows how weak his weapons are, so he tries to bore his enemies to death with his patethic talking.

(wonder, if i should mark this as a joke)

The Last Outpost was NOT his only sign of incompetance.

Exhibit 1
Exhibit 2
Exhibits 3 & 4

And don't even get me started on the number of times he took the saucer section (filled with civilians and children) into harms way.

Let's not forget Picards command brilliance in "The Wounded" where he not only gave the Cardassians transponder codes that would allow them to track all Federation vessels, but gave them the codes that would disable the Phoenix's shields, a fellow Federation ship. How me managed to avoid being courtmartialed I'll never know.

(Damn, that was a geek-out for the ages...)

Think about who sent him on that mission.
