How true it is

Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. - Robert Heinlein

All right, new question. How come the Federation is almost always able to bond with their defeated enemies after a war and bond a lasting peace and enforce it?

They don't the Romulans and Cardassians both strayed near war after the Feds had fought them most other races simply retreated to stand offs and little to no contact (Tzenkethi etc).

This of course isn't that bad they did reconcile with the Romulans for a short time after the end of the Earth-romulan war (abuot 100+ years) but that took awhile and was short lasting.

Well, that's only because they established a neutral zone that's an act of war to cross between the two territories and the Romulans became severe isolationists for those 100+ years...

Didn't look like much of a reconciliation to me...

No they did at one point they were very buddy buddy, hell the Romulan ambassador was sitting in on starfleet briefings if that isn't a good relationship I don't know what is.

They had the Earth Romulan war and then a little over 100 years later a brief friendship then back to the isolationism for another 100 years until TNG.

I checked my last message and I wasn't very clear, sorry.

It seems that the TNG Federation thinks that they can get away with paying off their enemies rather then using the threat of force to keep their neighbors in line/ The Federation has really downsized their military since the Kitomer Conference. The new rift between the Federatio and the Romulons may stem from the fact that the Romulon Ambassador was in of the assasination attempt on the Federation President and from the later Kitomer Massacre and the loss of the Enterprise-C in that battle.

Yeah that has always been my take, it probably also led to renewed Romulan - Klingon tensions.

Yes i think it was the Klingon's chest banging that lead to the Romulon's sneek attack on Khitomer. The Romulons always were ones to take any advantage they can if they see war as inevitable.

Edit: fixed spelling

Do you have any other quotes where he backs up this claim?
