Given Naval, land etc, tactics, and commons sense often forgotten by starfleet, what classic bit of Naval or boarding doctorine would revolutionize Startrek?

Using Main Battle Tanks!

The Federation Army needs help.

The use of combined arms tacticts in fleet engagment and a use of loose fleet formations with capital ship standing at long range and firing on enemy ship in concert. Using their lighter ships to harry enemy heavies and preventing the enemy's light ships from doing the same.

Basically remembering the Battle of Jutlands

Whoa, take it one step at a time! Just start with "thinking" :D

If I have anything real to add it would be the tactic they have long forgotten--overwhelming force. They need all the other surgestions as well, but this one is also important. If Kirk was threatened, he fired everything he needed to win. If Picard were threatened, well, we know what happens  If a Borg cube enters your space, send everything at it! I mean everything! If the Romulans enter the neutral zone and you know it, send a full battle squadron and scare that ship silly! No quarter, get breathing room. They have to show some spine or their enemies will run over them before they can learn the other important tactics suggested here already.

I thought of adding that, but then I realised it needed some type of qualifier.

Cos a Young Earth Creationist 'thinks' when they are ranting about YEC, it just isnt logical or structured in any meaningful way.

I think that their biggest deficiency is on the ground, since 15 divisions is considered a major force, capable of defeating a large defensive army that has been fairly well dug in.

I think that the best tactic for them to learn would be the idea of fire and movement. If that's too general, then I would say "cover," since we repeatedly see UFP and Klingon warriors race into battle with no regard for it.

Hey, they had the Argo in Nemesis! Granted it was a 20th century dune buggy and had a gun that could only be fired when running away, but it's sort of a combat vehicle. :D :D :D

Aircraft carriers and really good fighters. Also, bombers and gunboats are needed.

I agree. Starfleet has to be rebuilt from scratch to be combat effective.

A few very basic things...

Understanding that if they fire at you they are probably the enemy.

It's OK to return fire even if you have a bigger gun.

It's even more OK to return fire if you don't have the bigger gun.

If a heavy blunt object will get the job done there is no need for a Phase pulse polarisation modulated techno gizmo with 5 dimensional subspace compensators.

A torpedo version of the bridge consols.

Bodyarmor for everyone operating a consol in combat.

A good military shotgun would work wonders when the Klingons board Federation ships with melee weapons.

Old fashion kevlar body armor and helmet would reduce casulties since Starfleet seems to be unable to reduce the exploding console problem.

Seatbelts.

A fuse for those consoles.

I'd put surge protectors around all of those consoles. Better to have them blow than the consoles.

That would require using something OTHER than Plasma Conduits! As these are what are actually cooking off when the infamous consols explode! Basically the power line running the things are the problem!

But...but plasma conduits are so much more advanced and efficient.
