I disagree. I think it clear that they represent a totally new, or at least a completely different design. I suggest that the Valadores werre the equivlents to the Ambassador class. It would fit with the design lineage.
You have the BoP. Flip the BoP upside down and tack on a neck, and you get the D-12. Paint it green, make it bigger, and make a few modifications in shape and placement, and you get the valadore. Flip another valadore upside down and smash two of them together bottom to bottom, you have something similar to the D'Dedrix class. Bring the forward part back more, bring the wings together and bend them down, and move the engines and you get the Scimitar.
Why bring the Valadore's if they are outdated? Because they are light cruisers and faster. They need to catch the other ships quickly to keep the secret, so firepower was sacraficed for getting there in time.

That's probably the case. It may be that D'Deredix warbirds or some aspect of them (their artificial singularity comes to mind) are incredibly expensive to produce, and the RSE decided to go for quantity over quality with the lighter, cheaper Valdores. Perhaps they are for internal defense only, with a decent firepower, but relatively short operating range and limited shielding.Master of Ossus wrote:Maybe the Valadore is designed to fit another role in the Romulan military?
