The Final Nail?

I just recently noticed, at the end of an episode of ST: TNG that their special effects were done by Industrial Lights & Magic, a division of Lucasfilm, Ltd. I hope I am correct in assuming that even Gene Roddenberry knew that he had to go to the masters to get some decent looking work done

ILM also did the effects in First Contact, though I'm not sure about the other movies

they did Generations as well (infact some people working for Generations later worked on the SW:PT(aka episodes 1-3)), we got remember that the makers of SW and ST don't consider the Vs. debate in any shape or form

They did the effects for II-IV and VI-VIII. And on TMP the FX supervisor was John Dykstra, who did the same job on ANH.
Ironically enough though, the only TNG episode ILM worked on was Encounter at Farpoint. On every episode since, the effects were handled by Paramount's in-house teams. ILM still got credited though, since most shots of the E-D in the series were just the original ILM shots with a few additional elements inserted

This observation is irrevelant. It's a cool fact, yes, but it doesn't matter, as it goes beyond Suspension of Doubt. You *cannot* do this in the versus debate...

Other production teams did equally good work on TMP and the various series, but ILM are very good, so it's no surprise they were the first choice for many of the movie FX.

Err, not quite. ILM are a very, very good effects house, and they are responsible for a lot of work in Star Trek for this reason. The 'Vs' thing is entirely irrelevant to such matters. ILM's artists have to have work between Star Wars films, and will do a fine job on practically anything put in front og them.

I seriously doubt if the thought of "Star Trek versus Star Wars" once crossed the mind of either Gene Roddenberry or George Lucas when it came to the collaboration of Paramount and ILM on Star Trek special effects. Really, at that level, no one gives a shit.
