Seismic Charges: Sci-Fi Wankfest Or Just Friggin Cool?

Post by Illuminatus Primus »

Does anyone else think the seismic charges just didn't make any sense and were stupid and made you wonder "why the hell didn't they use those in all those other situations?" Vote your mind.

An increably focused bomb could do the same thing, likley some sort of forcefields or shielding would be nessary to channel that destructive power over a 2D Plane

That's what annoyed me about it. I think charges reminiscient of ESB proton bombs with a proximity fuse would've been better and made more sense.

It seems like some sort of twisted application of repulsor technology. And it would be MUCH more efficient against ground targets than a conventional bomb.

Well, didn't Wong propose that they were meant more for use against ground-based targets?

They must be. Why else would they be called seismic charges? Seismic disturbances are a geological phenomenon; they don't occur in space.

Definatly ground weapons. You drop one and boom. 10 gigatons in every direction. Or maybe less as Fett might have used a big one...

Makes perfect sense as a ground weapon. Why else is it mounted on the bottom of the ship? Hey Sapnky, wasn't their some review for AotC online that insisted that it was a brain-bug, becuase Lucas must have intended it to be a sonic weapon? As for the delayed-sound thing, in terms of sound in SW space (being audial feedback) it's probably due to the repulsor/force-field directioning system's inherent delay, preventing the sensors from playing a sound untill the energy is fully released.

I think that that was the obvious application for such weapons. They represent the penultimate method of dealing damage to targets on the ground over a large area. Only the yield can be improved, but probably not the delivery system.

Good God, the term 'wankfest' is thrown around WAY too much.

Frankly, if someone tosses in a bit of cool tech, it's not a wankfest. If half te movie had been devoted to marveling over those cool bombs and weapons like them at the expense of the plot, THEN it would have been a wankfest.
