Lambda Shuttle vs. Trek shuttle
Not comparing technologies, just comparing desigs. As you can tell, I'm as obsessed about small craft from both universes as I am women

How do ST impulse engines work? IIRC, they are just simple fusion engines. Since most Trek shuttles do not have warp, there shouldn't be any antimatter in there in the first place.Beowulf wrote:Lambda is much better because it doesn't have any volatile AM on board... Plus it looks cooler.

Lambda class shuttle, military variant...ten blasters, baby!Exonerate wrote:And is has enough weaponry to fight off fighters. Wait, or was that the escort shuttle? Man, I'm forgetting stuff...
And I should clarify some scenerios...
1.) Going from one ship to another
2.) Going from planetside to ship and vice versa without transporters
3.) Going at the maximum STL distances for both

Based on Tech Lamda shuttles are able to be armed with those Turreted Lasers plus missle Launchers.
IE Unless the Shuttle has over 10 Megatons of shielding(Highly Unlikely)
A strifing run or two of the Lamda shuttle will put it down

The Lambda for the most part is a troop transport style shuttle. It carries people and a few supplies. It can enter atmosphere's and has decent defensive weaponry.
The contenders from Trek would be the Peregrine, Delta Flyer, Runabout, and Venture. The Peregrine is an older assault style ship with weapons and a little extra room. The Delta Flyer itself doesn't have much storage room but has 8 phaser arrays built on it covereing all directions as well as missile systems. The Runabout is the largest of the bunch and has reasonable phaser coverage. The Runabout has room to carry either cargo or people. It has 4 mission "pods" that can be installed in the mid section as either bunks, bathrooms, or cargo pods. IIRC the rear room can be removed as well. The Venture seems to be a large armed scout with full sized weaponry (unknown how many torpedoes it has) and a multi deck lay out with a seperated front cockpit.
Ignoring firepower for a moment the Runabout and standard Lambda shuttle are comparable. The Delta Flyer has more combat built into it. The Venture has more combat as well but lacks cargo and people capabilities. The combat version of the Lambda would compare to the Delta Flyer or Venture. The Peregrine is likely sub-par on most counts.

I like the Lamda shuttle its better armed and justs looks cooller. beyond that it also has a larger cargo capacity and if used as a personal transport would be quite roomy.

A single shot of multi kiloton fire from any one of the many lasers would utterly destroy the shuttle. The reverse is not true.

The armed transport for the Empire would more likely be the Imperial Landing Craft. And trust me, the Landing Craft would slaughter 20 times as many of the Trek ships you name. The Landing Craft is heavily armed for its size.
The Lambda is the jeep/truck/officer transport for the Imp. Navy.

I'd take the Lambda, although it sure takes up a lot of space.

where the hell did my posts go?Beowulf wrote:Lambda is much better because it doesn't have any volatile AM on board... Plus it looks cooler.
Anyway, as I had posted before, since most Trek shuttles are sublight impulse only anyway, why would they have AM on board?
