Darth Wong wrote:The hostility is simple: rabid fans of both B5 and ST are pissed that Star Wars is far more popular than both B5 and ST combined. Both series take themselves quite seriously, and devotees of both series act like petulant children when forced to face the fact that most people don't really see the appeal (one thing they don't realize is there's very little fun in either B5 or recent Trek; they're both rather pompous).
I don't know if I'd say that B5 took itself very seriously. Certainly it didn't take itself as seriously as Trek.

Part of the problem B5 always had in attracting fans was that you almost had to see the whole series for it to make any sense, and certainly to get much out of it. That's why I never really cared that it wasn't very popular. I just thought that it ruled by itself.

If that's true, why not theincredible hate for B5?
Because nobody takes bio-ships seriously.

B5 made the pretense of taking itself seriously but when one started peeling back the layers the universe resembled an onion: layer upon layer of stink all ultimately wrapped around nothing. B5 was even more insulting to the viewer than Voyager was: to watch B5 was to invest a fair amount of committment but ultimately the payoff was negative and by no means worth the investment. In contrast Voyager both expected nothing and delievered nothing.
