Phasers are still in use so they obviously can cause some damage, they just may not be able to punch through SW shields. I never said they were magical, you put words in my mouth.
Of course phasers cause some damage genius. :) It is just that the damage is too low to affect teraton level shields used by Imperial warships.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

One thing is kinda interesting, how would a Droideka fare against phaser-fire?

The droidekas with shields that stop lightsaber strikes or blaster bolts?

I'd imagine the droideka would be effectively immune to phaser fire from hand phasers or the phaser rifle or pulse phaser rifle, given the known power output of SW grade personnel weapons that those same droidekas shrug off.

Until we see a droideka's shields overwhelmed by sheer weight of blaster fire, of course, from weapons we know the power output of, we can't be sure just how well-shielded they are.

I'd rather ban you and end your shame. Sadly the decision isn't up to me.

They stop lightsabers? Since when?

Obi Wan and Qui Gon considered their meeting with the droidekas to be a standoff. Some speculation suggests the droids' shields may have protected them from lightsabers else there would have been a Jedi victory.

The main objection to this speculation AFAIK is that the rapid fire coming from the droids didn't allow the Jedi to attack without dropping their guard fatally.

"That is correct!"

"How do you plan for that?"

I agree. The kinetic energy alone behind those bolts seemed pretty hefty.

A forcefield can block a lightsaber as was seen in Phantom Menace, but I'd doubt a droideka could carry a generator of that magnitude. What this does show that even a jedi can be swamped with sufficient RoF, hate to think what would've happened if there had been three droidekas. No wait no I don't, just two more jedi blasted to bits, so not. =P

So those Naboo shields could stop individual lightsabres indefinitely. How does that equate to Droideka's shields being totally useless again lightsabres, when all they have to do is dissipate the energy one of them receive long enough for the other to hit the Jedi from the side? :?

ummm.... where exactly did I say droideka shields would be useless against lightsabers? Anyhow, a lightsaber can penetrate blastdoors, and droidekas were blown to bits by a naboo fighters cannon, I'd would have saythe droideka would be in trouble. It's really a matter of how much of the lightsabers power would get through. The shield would stop some of it, but not necessarily enough. A real life example, a rifle bullet hitting a man wearing a flakvest. The bullet will be slowed by the vest, but not nearly enough for it to matter. I also simply stated that it is possible to make a forcefield strong enough to withstand lightsabers.

Droideka shields were useless against the Naboo fighter cannons Anakin was shooting them with in TPM.

Metal can only withstand phasers if the phasers are on LOW power.

Soverign class phasers can cut through Borg subpsace shielding (see First Contact). If they can do that, they can do anything.

Also, Type-X phasers can cut through planets if given enough time.
