Better Prequel
Nothing overly elaborate. As we all know, Star Trek and Star Wars have both over the last six years added the prequel element to their ever-growing universes. Despite the flaws and strengths of both, what do you consider to be the better prequel?

Really, I don't see how this could possibly be anything other than another Enterprise bashing forum. :S
Given the board's taste as I've seen it, this is a biased question on par with "Which smells better? Perfume, or shit?"
Not to defend Enterprise, I never watch it myself. But the idea this is really a "question" here strikes me as rather dubious.

I have enjoyed about 4 episodes of Enterprise in the first two seasons. I couldn't bear to keep watching it, it sucked so much. Whereas, while TPM annoyed me at times, it was pretty good, and I liked AotC.

It's not meant to be an ENT-bashing thread. As I said, both prequels have their respective strengths and their respective flaws. I'm simply curious to know what people truly believe to be the better prequel in the context of their own universes -- not to mention gather some numerical data while I'm at it.Robert Walper wrote:Really, I don't see how this could possibly be anything other than another Enterprise bashing forum. :S

No way! ROTS is going to rock. TPM was good, AOTC even better. given the trend, I think ROTS will be awesome.brianeyci wrote:There is the highly, highly unlikely possibility that ROTS will suck so much that its suckiness will uh outweigh Ent. Although unlikely.
Come on! We get to see Vader! Lightsaber action! Force powers! You can't go wrong...

I'm gonna have to go with SW on this one, even though I don't think Enterprise is terrible. It's mediocre, but I think it's better than Voyager TPM was ok, and AOTC was pretty good...as long as ROTS doesn't blow then SW will win this pretty easily.
BTW, does First Contact count as a prequel? Kinda?

Sure we can ... 20 minute of Ewok subplots would do it just fine ...Robert Walper wrote:No way! ROTS is going to rock. Although I am not a fan of prequels, if I had to choose between the two I would choose Star Wars as my favourite. TPM for all it's flaws showed us Coruscant for the first time. That was kickass. And a lot of the criticisms of AOTC strike me as bitter fans who will cling to anything they don't like, regardless of how minor an infraction.
Enterprise is a lot worse, in terms of prequels. And just standing by itself, it isn't any good. The characterisation is subpar, and a lot of it is nonexistent.
What good can come from a prequel, anyway? In terms of storytelling?

I disliked both Star Wars prequels. However, I don't watch Enterprise and know little about it other than what I hear on the board, but that has been enough to keep me far, far away (the descriptions of "Dear Doctor" were enough to do that ). That is balanced with the fact that I barely care about the state of Trek, having never been a fan, while I care a lot about things that alter Wars in ways I don't like. So, I voted Neither (although, it's not that I hate all prequels, just these ones).
Is it a crime to try and learn the truth? Is it a sin to search for those things which you fear? My purpose in this world is knowledge, and the dissemination of it. And it is I who is to restore the fruits of my labors to the entire world. Wake up! Don’t be afraid of knowledge! Humans who loose the capacity to think become creatures whose existence has no value. Think, you humans who are split into two worlds! Unless you want the gulf between humans to expand into oblivion, YOU MUST THINK! - Schwarzwald

I'm one of those (few?) people not hardcore Star Trek fans that actually like Enterprise (although only two seasons has been aired so far here in Sweden). It's better than TNG anyway.
But comparing Enterprise to the SW prequels is impossible, there's no way that can be done.
TPM was allright, AOTC is the best SW movie yet and I'm sure ROTS will take the title best SW movie ever.

Let see
SW
TPM:suffered from the disney-syndrome, but was otherwise OK
AOTC:While forced in some places and had Anakin-Padme romance bits that should have been cut, had some very good bit (like the endbattle and the part where as the Acclamators lift up fight the Clone wars the Republic theme transforms into the Imperial March).
ROTS:as far as I tell it's gonna be at least OK.
ST:ENT
Season 1: as far as I know it sucked
Season 2:see above
Season 3:had some good parts, but the rest sucked (I'm convinced B&B can't make anything worth watching)
Season 4:the Jury still out on that.
So SW all the way (George Lucas is nowere as bad as B&B).

I'll own up to my shameful vote. I voted Enterprise because for all of its great and many flaws, I have enjoyed my time with it. I like some of the charecters and charecter interactions enough to enjoy watching the show. The two Star Wars prequals on the other hand have just made me sad and angry that GL has fallen so far from the glory of his original creation. I still have hopes for Ep. III and will eagerly await its release, but so far I've just gotten more enjoyment out of Enterprise than Eps. I and II.

While I'm not enamored by either franchises prequels, I have to give it to SW. While I was disappointed by TPM TOTC and don't have great hopes for ROTS at this time, at least they didn't commit the plethora of continuity violations ENT did, leave alone the horrible mathignorance.

This is a pretty sad poll. It's like asking whether one prefers the taste of shit or vomit. The SW prequels sucked pretty hard, but not nearly as hard as Enterprise, so I suppose they should win.
On the other hand, I didn't spend 20 bucks to see enterprise.
I say it's a tie.
Of course, B5 In the Beginning blows Eps I and II and Enterprise completely away, but it wasn't mentioned in the poll.

I happen to like the SW prequels, not as much as the OT mind you, but I enjoyed them. Ent I have not enjoyed for more than two consecutive minutes (saw an ep with some massive spacebattle, and was able to enjoy the special effects, though it pissed me off when some powerful beings or another saved the sphere-deathstar-thingy). I keep hearing about these good episodes of it in the third season (eg Forge) but have yet to see them myself, so my vote easily goes to SW.
