What do you rate Trek Weapons at?
I put together a list of all the weapons in Trek that I could find, and want to know what you rate them at. Afterall, we have the Warsie stuff up top, but no trekkie stuff.

I'm kinda shocked that this got no replies. THe ones on the main site are feddie weapons only, plus I know not everyone here agrees with them.
Here's mine.

Hmm transphasic torpedoes....
I'd say they're no more than a standard pho-to, possibly even weaker because they have to carry this transphasic thingy which allows them to match frequenceies to penetrate the shields or something like that...
I'd give him 50 megatons.
HOWEVER the weapons are omnidirectional so that means 50% can possibly be effective.
effective yield:
Borg plasma torp:
100 mt
Quantum torp
64 mt
Photon torp type vi
40 mt
Photon torp type v
32 mt
my estimates.

FYI the Mark-6 torpedo is rated at 8 times more powerful then the Mark-5 torpedo. I find it highly unlikely that it would turn out to be less then 20% stronger as the two listed opinions.

The Mark-5 is less then 10 years younger then the Mark-6 yet there is an 8 fold increase in firepower. The Transphasic torpedo is 15 years more advanced then the Mark-6 torpedo, an increase in firepower is extremely likely and its even possible it uses advanced Quantum Torpedo systems for the explossive power.Cpt_Frank wrote:Hmm transphasic torpedoes....

I thought TNG: Genesis said there was only an 11% increase, hence my numbersAlyeska wrote:FYI the Mark-6 torpedo is rated at 8 times more powerful then the Mark-5 torpedo. I find it highly unlikely that it would turn out to be less then 20% stronger as the two listed opinions.

Just to set the record straight, though, our nuclear weapons do not approach that yield.

Yes but the Transphasic Torp was designed on Voyager on their way home. I don't believe that a torp designed on a spaceship would have the same rate of advancement as research stations.Alyeska wrote:The Mark-5 is less then 10 years younger then the Mark-6 yet there is an 8 fold increase in firepower. I dont think the basic torpedo is in the MT range.
I you go by TNG Genesis (the live fire test of the new torpedos), well they barely shattered (i.e broke into several slow moving pieces) a pair of asteroids; one ~13mx8m, the other 15mx14m (scaling from torpedo's at impact).
Thats implies a rather insignificant yield (and they were 11% increased explosive yield over their previous torpedos).

Such a bomb would be hugely impractical in any military use.Ender wrote:Tsar Nova test cracked in at 50 MT according to my Aug. copy of Popular Science.Master of Ossus wrote:Just to set the record straight, though, our nuclear weapons do not approach that yield.
The majority of the U.S. nuclear arsenal is less than one megaton.
I haven't seen the episode but IIRC Janeway from the future brought the technology to the "present" Voyager.anarchistbunny wrote:Yes but the Transphasic Torp was designed on Voyager on their way home. Tsar Bomba was a supposedly approx. 100 MT weapon who's outer uranium jacket was replaced with lead to control the yield. I believe the Servenaya test yielded around 50 MTs or around that. It was never intended for military use: the only bomber that could carry it would only perhaps reach the only practical American target, Chicago, in 8 hours, which is needless to say, too long in a nuclear war. If dropped in Europe, the lethal fallout would be so prodigious it'd likely blow over Warsaw Pact nations.Uraniun235 wrote:Such a bomb would be hugely impractical in any military use.Ender wrote:Tsar Nova test cracked in at 50 MT according to my Aug. copy of Popular Science.Master of Ossus wrote:Just to set the record straight, though, our nuclear weapons do not approach that yield.
