data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.
The thing is that oftentimes even doing that doesn't make the episode not suck.data_link wrote:Of course. I'm too cheap for that. And I think that making the captain a genocidal maniac would overwhelm even the most up to date anti-idiocy barrier.Shinova wrote:neoolong wrote:The thing is that oftentimes even doing that doesn't make the episode not suck.data_link wrote:Of course. I think the reason is very, very simple: The characters throw around impressive sounding dialogue. Gigajoules! I mean, their knowledge of 'giga' is how big a harddrive is, and they are bound to conclude this must be a BIG thing. This dialogue also creates the false aura of realism, which further contributes.

Why, you ask? Simple. Because people are stubborn and egotistic. They don't like being wrong, and many will shut their ears and ignore all the evidence that says they're wrong. Just look at the US. Fundies galore.
