Why? Get 'em when they're far enough away and the Warp Cores will take care of the ships themselves.CaptJodan wrote:With that level of ion firepower, I'd seriously be worried about AM containment. Remember, they canNOT just let the warp cores take care of the ships themselves, because Supreme Chancellor Palpatine is a hostage on one of the ships, and they have to rescue him first.Plushie wrote:Why? Besides, how will you get the ST ships far enough away so the resulting blasts will NOT shower deadly radiation all over Coruscant? (Remember, the planet's been under heavy bombardment, so the planetary shield may be breached at several places-- it might not stop all the radiation or the fallout.) Do you think the standard tractor beams on SW ships-- there's no time to bring in on with specially designed tractor beams-- are powerful enough to drag the ST ships away?

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Plushie's saying shoot them with planetary ion cannons before they have a chance to batter down the shields and capture Palpatine. Because, unless Palpatine is allowing himself to be captured by the Federation, in all likelihood the forces defending Coruscant (hundreds if not thousands of SDs) are more than enough to prevent the Feds from even getting to transporter range of the planet.

That's the whole point, if we're doing a straight force sub then the Federation are the equivalent of the Separatists and Palpatine is allowing him to be captured and then for Anakin to turn closer to the Dark Side by killing a helpless opponent.NRS Guardian wrote:Because, unless Palpatine is allowing himself to be captured by the Federation,
Of course, there is no Trek equivalent to Jedi, so Palpatine would have to be on crack to think that the Federation would be useful, especially since for his plans with Anakin to work, Obi-Wan has to be somehow defeated or disabled, and the Federation equivalent of Dooku wouldn't last two seconds. So the force-sub is stupid. Unless Palpatine has some other way to separate Obi-Wan and Anakin, the plan wouldn't work.

On a Trek ship, the separation will be easily done-- Palpatine will order the Fed equivalent of Dooku to have the transporter lock on Obi-Wan and send him outside the ship, where the Jedi master will asphyxiate. (I'm assuming Sidious can somehow prevent Obi-Wan from jamming Fed sensors or otherwise countering this tactic.)brianeyci wrote:Of course, there is no Trek equivalent to Jedi, so Palpatine would have to be on crack to think that the Federation would be useful, especially since for his plans with Anakin to work, Obi-Wan has to be somehow defeated or disabled, and the Federation equivalent of Dooku wouldn't last two seconds. This whole thing is a non-debate. You can't take a major SW fleet battle involving thousands of ships, swap the Federation in for either side, and expect them to do anything but get owned.
