I remember a documentary about tribesmen in either Ivory Coast or Liberia using pretty crude metalworking to make parts for cars, tractors, roto-tillers, and most of all, weapons. The metalworking was essentially a guy pouring hot metal into a mold, quenching, then filing the pieces by hand with a file until they fit. Pakistan has a cottage industry of handmade copies of small arms and handmade ammunition. I'm sure most of the stuff made by these people is low quality, but is better than nothing.

Which leads me to a few questions: I doubt a medieval or renaissance prince could reproduce a Model T. Could he produce an incredibly primitive version? For example, could he run the engine on vegetable oil or alcohol instead of gasoline (like people in Third World countries sometimes do)? Could he get his ramshackle Model T to work if instead of using rubber for tires and belts, he used wooden wheels and bison hide belts (which is what inductry used before rubber)? Could he get cylinders to work with such primitive metalworking?

If any of these are possible, and an engine-driven vehicle could be produced, wouldn't this prince have a huge leg up on his peers? Assuming the scenario, wouldn't the Borg be masters of their galaxy if they acquired a WD, even if they were only able to produce crude versions of SW vehicles with it?

But the fact remains it practically took someone to throw a book at you when you provided no evidence otherwise of how RedImp scenario was talking out his ass except your piss poor "it'll take time!!!!"
Irregardless of whether "it practically took someone to throw a book at" me to prove that I was wrong, the fact remains that I was man enough to admit my mistake when I was confronted with a point that forced me to rethink my position (something any honorable person is capable of). I fail to see where you have been man enough to admit that it was wrong to lambast me for a train of thought that I was man enought to admit was in error. I am not asking much, just a simple acknowledgment of error. Then I can sleep soundly at night. :)

It's been stated before and I'll repeat for the trillionth time: THE BORG CANNOT REPRODUCE SOMETHING IF THEY LACK THE CAPACITY!

The Borg don't have the power to magically recreate whatever they assimilate. Go back in time, find some Medieval knights, and give them a Sherman Tank, fully loaded, and give the exact specifications for making it. They could never make another or resupply their tank. They wouldn't have the necessary materials or manufacturing plants. It could take years for them to make a tank without the industrial strength and materials of the future.

If the Borg managed to assimilate a Star Destroyer (major "if", considering all the stormtroopers and defensive guns), they could not make any more or repair and resuplly their current one. They lack the materials to make one.

Necroing is bad ju-ju. Contribute to threads not smelling as bad as this rotten one.

Enjoy your stay. (You will, if you memorize the rules. Please read the rules first.)
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

While chitoryu12 has made a worthwhile contribution...this thread is dead.

It was kept alive because morons were not grassping simple concepts of what technology is.

Thus locking because like LaCroix pointed out..."It's dead, Jim."
