Quick question about SW and 35mm camera
Is Darkstars spiel about the original trilogy being filmed with a 35mm camera, and thus its use in scaling distances correct?

Re: Quick question about SW and 35mm camera
The OT was filmed on 35 mm film. But that is pretty standard. I'm not sure what you mean by scaling distances though. If there was distortion I'm pretty sure that it would come about due to the lenses used, not the film stock.Evil S'tan wrote:Is Darkstars spiel about the original trilogy being filmed with a 35mm camera, and thus its use in scaling distances correct?

I'm assuming that they used 35mm film with anamorphic lenses for both the OT and TPM.
Other than that, I have no idea what DarkStar said.

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

That's right 35mm stands for the size of the film not the distance to the film. Te term for that is the focal lengthneoolong wrote:He uses image distance to lens as 35 mm. I don't think this is correct. 35 mm refers to the film stock, not image distance to lens. So he gets screwed up results.

Every time a camera zooms in or out the lens focal length is changed. As such the focal length can vary from second to second within each shot let alone from scene to scene. It simply wouldn't be practical to publish focal length data on a second by second basis--even assuming Lucasfilm kept records of the information in the first place.

But just what the hell is DarkStar's argument? Why would the format of the film or lens configuration even matter?
Is this just another example of how delusional and insane DarkStar is?

He is either a moron, or lying. He uses a formula and since he doesn't have the right numbers, he grabs a number he finds about the film and plugs that in. Thus his results are screwed up. So either he is frigging incompetent, or knows that he is wrong and hopes someone will buy it if he uses big words.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:But just what the hell is DarkStar's argument? Fuck, DarkStar's probably the only person I'd actually strangle if I ever ran into him...
If he's doing shit like that, he's a waste of carbon.
