Sovereigns or Defiants vs ISD?
If you were a Starfleet admiral tasked with stopping a marauding ISD by mobbing it with mass numbers ships when it turned up at (x location which you just somehow knew it was going to turn up), and you had a choice of using either Sovereigns or Defiants, which would you choose?

I'd use a shuttle from a Sovereign. Hopefully the ISD will let such a minor vessel live long enough for it to broadcast my surrender.

I would use the Guardian of Forever to go back in time and retrieve the Tox Uthat, and use that to cause a supernova that would arrive at the ISDs entry point just as it came out of hyperspace. If technobabble and one episode wonders are disallowed, then I will go with Sea Skimmer's shuttlecraft surrender plan, because I have no chance in a straight fight.

I'd go with the Defiant's as the most remote possibility exists that IF I could devote the entire resources fo teh federaiton to building them (and crewing them) and IF I could also produce enough Q-torps to load them up that I MIGHT be able to take down 1 ISD.

You'd still get better results with massed ramming runs while loaded with high exposives. Warp 9 to 100 feet in front of the ISD, then full impulse the remainder of the way, presuming you can manage that much precision. Also, all such attacks should be directed at the bottom of the ISD, because of the lower firepower available to protect the underside.

If forced...Soverigns.
The Defiant's smaller profile won't do crap and in fact it's resources wasted.
Poinhtless bventure and I second Skimmer's surrender motion.

I have to dissagree with the rest here, Definats are supriror to the Sovergin in this fight, Despite the better Phasers and heavier shielding that will not matter aginst the ISD
Torps is the only way to Victory and 2 Frontal Quantum Torp Launchers which are Quad Firable just like the Sovergin's SINGLE Frontal Launcher and you get the idea of which to use

Mixing types is always the best idea. Its called combined arms tactics. Both types have strengths and weaknesses and they can often compliment each other.

Just based on size alone the Defiant's consume less resources and should be able to be onstructed in a shorter time frame. Plus crewing them will be easier.Morning Star wrote:It depends...which one could get you out of there faster.

Considering that the shield difference between a Sovereign and a Defiant in non-existent from a SW perspective, I'll take the smaller target profile and greater maneuverability of the Defiant.
