Just how many would it take?
I KNEW someone would say that!
Assuming that they didn't change the number of battleship sized construction docks after BOBW and that they don't increase that number of docks for this project, and using the 6 year construction time, it will take just over 60 decades to build that many.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:4K Sovs huh? Anyone wanna figure out how many decadesit would take for the Feds to pull THAT off!

Except as Alyseka would say that runs contrary to observed shipcounts during the end of DS9 where they finaly smarted up and had a few thousand ships mostly new types on hand

I think a reasonable number of Sovereigns might be able to damage an ISD if they all start ramming it at high velocity (assuming they can do this). Their weapons, however, would be useless. It's like asking how many longbowmen it would take to knock out an M1 Abrams.

Of course only if the driver looks out, gets shot in the head and the tank falls down a cliff

Yes, but how many of them were battleship sized? (GCS size). Not many. Most were shorter, in the less then 500 meter range.Mr Bean wrote:Except as Alyseka would say that runs contrary to observed shipcounts during the end of DS9 where they finaly smarted up and had a few thousand ships mostly new types on hand

Was it not one Darkstar himself who posted that idea? I could be wrong, but I do remember somebody saying that a medevil horse-mounted knight could kill a tank by hopping on, opening the hatch, and killing the crew. And they never looked at him the same way again.

data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.

Answer: 2. Bo Duke and Luke Duke, with their trusty TNT-tipped arrows and strategically placed 55 gallon drums of gasoline half-buried on the battlefield.Darth Wong wrote:I think a reasonable number of Sovereigns might be able to damage an ISD if they all start ramming it at high velocity (assuming they can do this). The tank rumbles onto the battlefield, our trusty archers pop up out of concealment and begin firing. Shot one goes straight down the 120 mm cannon barrel, shot two blows off all turret-top fittings, shot three takes out the co-axial MG, and shots four and five touch off 110 gallons of gasoline that the tank conveniently drove partially on top of, disabling both tracks.
Just to stay remotely on topic with my post, I'd have to say that a squadron of about a dozen Sovereigns supported by several hundred flying wrecks should be sufficient. Really.
Consider how big an antimatter missile a Sovereign could be. Pack all available spaces with full antimatter containment pods, strip out all but a skeleton crew of suicide jockeys, and speed the squadron on its way. The flying wrecks, like those the Federation apparently maintains in mothballs in large orbital storage yards, do nothing but fly into the teeth of enemy fire and explode. Screened by that short-lived defense, a dozen Sovereign-class starships arrow in on the ISD and try to ram. If two or three make it through the ISD's fighter screen and defensive fire, the ISD may be hurting.
There are problems with that tactic, of course: where to get the thousands of tons of antimatter needed per attack, where to get the hundreds of Sovereign missiles that would have to be prepositioned at each vulnerable point of the Federation defenses, where to get the tens of thousands of expendable screening ships, why a scaled down version of that brute force approach was not used against the Borg ...
