An X-Wing strategy session

This is my idea cause I happen to like Xwings (Rogue Squadron in particular)

Scenario:

Overview: Distrupt Galactic supply lines for an impending invasion with minimul casualties to the civilian populace.

Specifics:
Insert Federation space
1.) Aquire a covert base of operations
2.) Acsess resources for independant missions
3.) Observe and analyze government/s for possible subversion

Resources:
1 Carrack class light cruiser fitted for deep insertion covert missions
12 Xwings with sufficent parts for 1 year of heavy combat
Pilots and support crew for said xwings and carrack, addition support must be provided in zone.
1 heavy construction droid for building a base of operations

A squadron of X-Wings and a Carrack Cruiser with plenty of torpedos is more than enough firepower to deal with 2 or 3 starships from any of the Alpha Quadrant powers in the Star Trek universe.

They could probably hyper into the Sol System, or the home systems of the Klingons or Romulans and simply destroy their shipyards, then hyper back out without taking serious losses. As for supplies, aside from food, nothing they can capture in the Star Trek universe is going to be of much use to a Star Wars military--aside from Risa and the other pleasure planets.

Rogue Squadron novels aside, an X-Wing squadron isn't exactly a good choice for subversion missions. If nothing else, anyone who picks up a Carrack Cruiser and a squadron of X-Wings on their sensors is going to wonder what the hell they are and where they came from. And if they get a good reading on the Carrack's power generation capabilities, they'll probably piss themselves.

Invade. Don't attack the civilian populace. Mission accomplished. That's literally all it takes.

I think you mean infiltrate or insert in Federation space. Insert sounds like you want to copy and paste Federation space to somewhere else...

Why bother? Wars powers from the CSA down can happily IGNORE the AQ powers if they want to take over. Sufficiently wealthy single system states probably can. What is this invasion, some kid's high school project or a 9th rate crime lordling getting ambitious?

Mutually exclusive. The Carrack is simply not big enough for the supplies needed for that.

Requires a freighter for the spares already.

Another freighter,
addition support must be provided in zone.
Not possible thanks to the infrastructure being several dozen millenia out of date AND the available manpower severely lacking.

Define heavy construction droid, please. Because that droid is going to have to provide not only the base infrastructure but virtually ALL the supplies for the duration of the mission, and you better hope it is equipped to produce the more exotic ones like hypermatter and Tibanna gas because whatever infrastructure you manage to snag from the locals isn't going to be up to it for a LONG time.

Replace the Carrack and x-wings and construction droid with a tiny world destroyer (ie size of the Carrack) and you have a deal :D .

Why? Point one is not necessary. Point two is nearly none besides food stuff, which might not even be necessary. Point three why do it with such tiny amount of troops and ships when sending in a thousand ship would not even be a blip in the Empire.

Alright, after what you guys said I decided to change this a bit.

Its just after the battle of Endor, Whoever is in charge on Imperial Center has recieved a report of a small wormhole (or whatever you wish to call it) almost directly in the middle of the core. The vortexes and gravitational pull of the entire galaxy distorts this wormhole so thatonly a limited about of mass may be sent through reliably at one time. The wormhole is self is relativly small no ship with a bigger frontal cross section bigger than 78 meters by 78 meters will even fit into the wormhole without destruction. The wormhole will close after a certain mass has been sent through.

Wishing not to create more enemies at the time, do to the recent debacle, the interim government assigns you to insert and infiltrate useing Rebel equipment so if your mission is compromised the blame will not fall on the Empire.

This is not a diplomatic mission however, rather one to asses the threat that this new galaxy posses.

Couple things to remember:
1.) Inserting through the wormhole disables all active electrical devices for 1 hour, additionally it whipes all memory(of active units). Hence we need an actual physical presence.

2.) This has to look like a Rebel contingent.

3.) Any additional support with be provided by resources in system. (meaning find your own)

4.) You have one prototype reconnaisance craft configured for deep space exploration to be assembled on site. With advanced starmaping and hyperdrive route equipment and prototype cloaking device. 2 man crew and 60 prob droids.

Upon arrivial you and your forces are completely cut off from Imperial space. The worm hole disappearing for an unspecified amount of time (2 months) with no way to predict when it will return. And no additional reinforcements until then.

Rules:
1.)no wank EU ship, meaning no sun crusher or the like

2.) You have the resources available to the Empire as of 1 week following the battle of Endor, to build your task force, keep in mind mass requirements (for easier reference: 1 ship (carrack sized) and up to 30 smaller ships.)

3.) No force users. Period. (IRL I hate them)

4.) You no nothing of the Galaxy when you arrive. No star maps, nothing.

5.) Use force only when absolutely necissary, but keep yourself hidden.

One Strike Cruiser.

Five Corvettes.

A few assault shuttles, with Stormtrooper complements.

The rest of the available mass as freighters full of supplies.

That's a task force capable of defeating anything an Alpha Quadrant power could possibly throw at it if it's discovered, while being able to capture colony worlds for astrogation/cultural/technological data as-needed. The only thing that is strictly Imperial here is the Stormtroopers, and that's alright because nobody's going to see them and live to report back to their government.

As for capturing supplies, once again, aside from foodstuffs this is going to be impossible. Anything we need we have to take with us for the simple reason that the technology in the Star Trek galaxy is nowhere near adequate for repairs or routine maintenance for a Star Wars vessel. Fortunately, the size of the strike force necessary to accomplish this mission is small enough that supplies shouldn't be in high demand, and the chances of taking battle damage are negligible unless a Corvette captain gets bored and lets a couple of local starships take potshots at his vessel.

Strike Cruiser won't fit. The Carrack is already a damn tight squeeze.

You get that the moment you send anything through. I think you mean personell presence and you're wrong again. Just send them through shut-down on a timer. What will necessitate the presence of people on the other side is the Wars' universe's distrust of droids.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? You plot the position of stellar bodies. You plot a course from a to b that doesn't intersect any of them. Viola-instant hyperspace route. Hell we can do that TODAY.

Hopelessly undercrewed and/or has way too few probe droids to be useful.
I'd change it for a freighterload or three of probe droids.

I don't see why we'd need any, or what good the Sun Crusher would be in the first place.

Which isn't so much as a drop in the bucket for a single sector force, so I don't see why you bothered to specify post Endor. If you wanted a hard limit on the force you can send through, why not stick with the mass threshold?
While we're at it, what is the mass threshold? '30 smaller ships' covers everything from a half wing of starfighters to a small fleet of Nebulon-Bs.

I fail to see why this would make a difference anyway but again, it's your scenario. Not that the Empire has all too many of them at that point anyway.

I rather thought that collecting that information was the whole point of the scenario in the first place so naturally I wouldn't.

D'uh.
That being said, I'd ditch the Carrack, and send the maximum number of Gallowfrees or maybe Corellian Action IVs the tonnage window'll allow when combined with one or two CCs and 1 freighter reconfigured as an escort carrier. Those transports would include, say, two or three configured as unobtanium transports (hypermatter, neutronium, that kind of stuff), some consumables and spare parts, and what else is needed to start an outpost and support infrastructure.

Mission Variant #1 - (Disrupt trade)

1 Need on Bulk Freighter full of fuel, 24 Hyperspace Tugs, 24 Y-Wings, and 24 X-Wings, and a Contrainer Transporter full of hypermatter fuel.

You want to disrupt trade without casualties? Y-wings disable Star Trek ship, X-wings protect the operation, and Hyperspace tugs grab the Star Trek ship and Hyperjump with it to the otherside of the organization it's a part of.

In some cases, that shipment is now a year off course. Now that's a disruption. And unless it was medical supplies (which would be ignored) no civilians would be hurt.


Mission Variant #2 -
1 need one Bulk Frieghter full of Hyperdrive equipped Probe droids or similiar craft. Hell, Skipray blastboats with the turbolaser removed and replaced with a high end sensor suite would be more then sufficient.
Hell, Skiprays are prefered.
1 Container transporter full of hypermatter to refuel with.

Go through the newwormhole with everything shut down except minimal lifesupport, wait 2 hours, boot up, and let the Skiprays go exploring. Have them do short hyperspace jumps so they can map along the way, until they encounter an alien starship.

After determining the Starships capabilites are below a squadron of Skiprays, they follow it, ambush it, capture it, and now have flight data.

When they find out the state of Star Trek technology, they proceed to laugh there ass off, an then inform Imperial Central command there's a galaxy rip for the picking, who's technology is so massively updated, there high end warships can be defeated by a 4000 year old patrol frigate.


Would you like me to tell you how to start a galactic wide war without using any Star Wars Capital Ships?

If the strategic sense of the SW commander is in par with a water melon, he can easily defeat the entire Starfleet with the force provided (1 Carrack + 1 squad of X-wing). So if the goal is to disrupt the interstellar trade before a full scale invasion the plan is simple: fire at will.

However I think it is possible to make such a scenario interesting. Here is my idea:

Some month after the Pellaeon-Gavrisom treaty the Remnant discovers a wormhole (or the wormhole) which leads to Alpha Quadrant. Since the IR is only eight sectors the few thousands inhabited worlds in the new Galaxy is indeed a valuable resource for them. Especially the population which could be used to fill the ranks of the armed forces.

So the mission goal is to provide a steady flow of recruits for the Navy and Army.

Constraits: after the treaty the New Republic Intelligence is eagerly monitoring the Imperial troop and ship movements with special attention paid for capital ships, so the 'invasion' force should be mostly self-sufficient. To minimize the chance of detection only a miniscule quantity (which could easily be 'destroyed' by asteroid collisions and other dangerous events) of small ships could be provided.

Military assets:

1 Carrack class frigate modified to flotilla flagship
2 Bayonet class frigate for troop transports
6 Assasin class corvette ( AFAIK they are the Imperial versions of the CC)
2 wings of TIE interceptor above the Interceptors assigned to the Carrack (in external pilons)
1 legion of stormtrooper

So this force is more than a match for anything in the Milky Way if some fool decided to attack them, but unable to occopy a half-decent ST colony.

Civilian assets:


Small scale hypermatter extraction facility, neutronium mining facility...etc a basic orbital shipyard, the required merchant marine and about half million people to do the fleet manegement and run an Imperial colony.

Basically everything which is required for a small self-sufficient Imperial colony, for running the fleet and start a build up of forces.

So an abstract at the end: as commander of a laughable sized Imperial Fleet element recruit and train a significant portion the Trekverse population to GFFA quaility soldiers/naval personnel.

Any methods (trade, diplomacy, military actions, espionnage... etc) can be used.

ST time:
1.) Around the Khitomer Treaty
2.) Early TNG
3.) Dominion War

So how would you act as the Imperial commander?
