You know what is really funny?

I just remembered this. THe Photon torps used by Voyager are a special kind, called type 6 and rated at 200 isotons.

That means that, rather then 2.56 MT to the Isoton, using Darkstars calcs it so only 500 KT.

He just lowered the strength of the common Photon Torpedo!

So the special bomb used in The Omega Directive is, what, a bit over a dozen MT?

The Isoton thing doesnt really work, that weapon Kim thought to be powerfull was 1/4 (1/2 I cant remember the exact isoton rating) of a normal torp unless this gravitic warhead has some special properties for disrupting planets it dont make much sense.

Thus the point Darkling is just another example of Darkstar NOT think ahead or thinking beyond any point that might make SW Weaker and ST stronger

We dont know if that was a 200 Isoton but the isoton system doesnt work anyway so working out an isoton conversion doesnt seem like theres much point.

90 Isotons (used as a measure of weight measurement) of some explosive was enough to take out everything in 800 Km of a certain point (hmm 800 km radius sphere whats the size of the DS 2 again? that lasr part was a joke before you flame me).

Darkstar not thinking ahead would incorrectly imply that he actually thought in the first place.

Or we assume Kim is being sarcastic since he knows the standard torps Voyage carries are far mor powerful.

To find thet power out, we shouldn't use dialouge. If we want this "isoton" to be liegitamite, we should compare the evidence and come out with some sort of compomise, like that wold ever work.

Ender: If you want to ignore it just ignore it dont come and say we assume he was being sarcastic because its clear he consider the yield to be unusually high.

I'm not trying to ignore it, I'm trying to rationalize how Voyage packs the power to destroy a planet a couple of times over with each torp, yet it does not mesh witrh what we see.

What is you proposal for rationalizing it?

The gravimetric warhead has some weird effect that a torp doesnt have and having such a high yield in a gravimetric warhead is overkill for its usually use (whatever that may be).

And the evidence for the presence of this gravimetric warhead? I have never seen this episode mind you, but simoply read reviews and script snippets.

Tuvok " We are ready to load the Gravimetric charge"
Kim picks up a device about the size of his head.
Kim "that looks like enough for a 50 Isoton explosion".
Tuvok "54 to be exact".
Kim smiling "what are we playing to do blow up a small moon?"
Tuvko "I dont know"
Kim "This warhead isnt standard issue who designed it, the captain?"
Enter Janeway.
Janeway "Mr Kim you ask too many questions, change of plans Gentlemen increase the charge to 80 isotons"
Tuvok "Aye Captain"

They then debate what the weapon is for, some ensign believes it to close an entry point into Fluidic space but harry thinks its going to be used to detonate a protostar and turn it into a wormhole.

Considering Esign Kim is not a memeber of the weapons deparment and is clearly joking I think its pretty easy to tell 54 ISO-Tons is NOT enough to blow up a small moon(Unless he ment small as in Road-Island side moon :P)

No one was saying it can (although it could be depending upon how you define small and how the weapon works).

The point was he thinks this warhead is powerful yet compared to a normal pho torp it shouldnt be thats why my conclsuion is the warhead does something funky.

point conceeded on the gravimetric portion.

I would theorize that 54 isotons are the beginning stage and trigger the gravimetric portion much like fission triggers the thermonuclear reaction in current warheads.

As such, my rationalization that he is trivializing the output of 54 isotons still hold ture.

Except its clear he thought a 54 Isoton Gravimetric charge was a nice piece of firepower thus my stating that the isoton rating is dependant upon the type of weapon fits better.

Its clear he wasnt, trying to twist it to being sarcasm is like trying to take it literally - its incorrect.

I just dnt like twisting canon its like saying a sky we see thats green is pink because the colour pink fits in better with the rest of canon, especially when there is an explanation as to why its green.
