ST Transporters Vs SW Sheilds

Post by Dorsk 81 »

I was just reading the story about a guy who had the balls to say that a ISD could beat the Enterprise E at a ST convention, not surprisingly got flamed, blah, blah, etc.
One guy said
"It's totally stupid and gay!" said John Laskowitz, 16 of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. "I mean, hasn't this idiot ever heard of fuckin' transporters? All it would take is for the Enterprise to transport some photon torpedoes and shit over to the main bridge of the star destroyer and it's bye-bye Darth!"
(Totally stupid and gay....nice argument)
Anyway, can ST transporters get through SW sheilds?

I cannot think of one single reason why they would.

Well, ambient radiation blocks them, let alone a petaton level shield.

Hell, the Feds can't beam through other ST races shields, but they automatically assume they can beam through a whole other sci-fi verse?

Check Mike's database for the several events with transporters

Dense metals block them. Armor.
Radiation from nearby reactors block them. Big ass reactor in ventral bulge plus a number of independant reactors powering weapons.
EM radiation can block them. Sensors.

Shields are the least of the Feddies' problems.

The neutronium woven into Imperial armor should be enough to block transportes completly.

Absolutely. The list of phenomena, both natural and artificial, which prevent transporter function is long and diverse. Such phenomena range from moderately high levels of solar radiation to high density alloys to planetary electrical storms to the mere proximity of some naturally occurring minerals.

Not only would an Imperial warship's shields probably block transporters, but their hull materials and ECM jamming would almost certainly limit or completely prevent transport as well.

Err... that site is satire. The link "Microsoft near to completion of Death Star" should have given that away.

Ah well, all I wanted to know was wheather they could beam through anyway.
And it would surprise me to hear that Bill Gates had contracted some sort of weapon that could destroy a planet.

We've yet to see a shield that didn't stop transporters. Therefore the burden of proof is on the person claiming they will be able to beam through them. Given the vast number of things that do block transporters, I'd say the Trekkies have their work cut out for them.
