A Warp Core. Analogous to Nuclear Fission Reactors?
Well I'm not gonna go into any specific scientific detail, but doesn't a warp core seem to mirror a 20th century Fission reactor to some degree. They both have radioactive byproducts, namely Theta Radiation(although Fed tech has a countermeasures, the Malons From Voyager didn't and had to dump it). Plus the whole *Gasp* Warp Core Beach!! Warp drive seem to be doing lots of damage to their enviroment (Warp Factor Speed limit is the end result). What Surprises me that after 75 years after the Excelsior Transwarp Failure, they still can't fix the Problems they had with it.
BTW I'm writing a Fanfic involving the Federation Transwarp experiments in the 23rd century, anyone interested?

Except even a fission reactor designed by late 1950s Russian's under a resurrected Stalin who gave them six weeks, manufactured by Albania, and maintained by retarded chimps without thumbs, wouldn't explode with 1/100th the regularity warp cores do.

Seems odd, because the Excelsior transwarp failure was due to Scotty's tampering and nothing else, correct? Maybe Scotty neglected to tell them that.

As funny as that sounds, it may be true.Alferd Packer wrote:Seems odd, because the Excelsior transwarp failure was due to Scotty's tampering and nothing else, correct? Maybe Scotty neglected to tell them that.
The Federation Science Council for example has the alarming habit of declaring something to be impossible even if it isn't after reviewing it ONCE.

IIRC, they later discovered that the transwarp drive would have exploded when used, destroying the ship. Scotty's sabotage saved the ship from sure destruction. I think this comes from the tech manual though so its just speculation.Alferd Packer wrote:Seems odd, because the Excelsior transwarp failure was due to Scotty's tampering and nothing else, correct? I remember the TM saying something about the failure of transwarp after Scotty, but nothing about it potentially exploding... still, would've made an interesting scene in the movie "prepare for transwarp dri.." *KABOOM!*Sea Skimmer wrote:IIRC, they later discovered that the transwarp drive would have exploded when used, destroying the ship. Wait a minute, they put a new drive on a fully functioning fully crewed ship WITHOUT EVER TESTING IT???

Hmm...a toss-up between Chernobyl and a Feddie warp core
I think I'd rather trust a Russian RBMK reactor plant over a Federation warp core any day of the week. After all, it took the techs at Chernobyl hours to so totally disable the safety systems to cause that meltdown; whereas any of them could have made a warp core explode by accidentally spilling coffee on the control screen.
Seriously, a contemporary nuclear fission reactor is nowhere near as unstable as a TNG-era warp core. The things are accidents waiting to happen.

Bah...
According to the "Star Trek: Starship Spotter" at least, the Feds already fixed the damage to spacetime problem with warp engines. And they explode so much due to all the people shooting at their ships all the damn time!

Yup, they did. And later on they tested another FTL propulsion system by firing it at a planet. It nearly destroyed the planet before the Ent-D saved the day.Evil Jerk wrote:Wait a minute, they put a new drive on a fully functioning fully crewed ship WITHOUT EVER TESTING IT???
The federation is the dumbest bunch of moron imaginable. They have no regard for the lives of their people. Nearly every technolgy they have is life threatening and absurdly overdesigned. The only thing thats saved them is everyone else is dumber.

If it is, its gotten spread around a huge amount.Doomriser wrote:IIRC, the "Exploding Excelsior" transwarp theory was some BS postulated by Graham Kennedy. But I'd check his website to make sure.

And why the Fuck doesn't Warp cores have any type of shield to protect it from direct hits and intruders. Talk about incompetance.
