According to Paramount, Transphasic Torpedo's work only against the Borg, they were a custom designed weapon, and have little to no practical use against any other Trek Species who are not in someway Borg. It apparently takes advantage of some isiosynchracy in Borg Shield Technology to allow penetration.brianeyci wrote:[snip]
A "pro-trek" site that seriously considered the possibility of Trek winning would probably have to consider possibilities only. For example, the entire Federation fleet being equipped with transphasic torpedoes and armor, that doesn't seem too hard to do given that Voyager was able to do this outside a spacedock with a minimum of hassle. But there's the temporal prime directive, and the Enterprise-E doesn't have transphasic torpedoes or abalative armor generators.
On an aside, has anyone calculated the yield of a transphasic torpedo with minimum and maximum values?
Brian
Besides, Temporal Prime Directive would preclude the deployment of said weapon, even if they could be altered to affect other Trek Species in a meaningful way.

Interesting on the first paragraph. That's been the assumption since they never showed up in Nemesis. Would you be able to cite the source?DarkSilver wrote:According to Paramount, Transphasic Torpedo's work only against the Borg, they were a custom designed weapon, and have little to no practical use against any other Trek Species who are not in someway Borg. I like how the Hairy Mountain Man in brianeyci's thread claims that the reason Fed ships use interior forcefields instead of blast doors is to cut down on weight.
I thought Fed ships had trillions of gigajoules of energy in their warp core. How would a few hundred tons make any significant load to that sort of energy?

Considering that the E-Nil is supposed to be a few million, I don't see why a few hundred tons make a difference anyway.SPOOFE wrote:I like how the Hairy Mountain Man in brianeyci's thread claims that the reason Fed ships use interior forcefields instead of blast doors is to cut down on weight.

Okay, got the problem with the server straightened out. Uploading everything back on now. I'll try to get the directory names right so we won't have to go around renaming links.

"glowy-bits"?JediMaster415 wrote:This is rich!
When asked to explain the sparks shooting from Leia's arm, Darkstar responds thusly:
They're glowy-bits . . . post-impact glowy-bits cannot alter the trajectory of the bolt pre-impact.
I'm guessing that's the technical term. I wonder what the layman's term is?
Given that we have never seen these "glowy-bits" from other impacts on flesh, but have seen "glowy-bits" from strikes on metal, we must therefore assume that Leia's arm is made of metal. Occam's Razor demands it!

-Darkstar on the arrow issue. You're still coming at it from the wrong angle, while also proving that my lightning analogy was absolutely correct.
To reiterate, the bare-bones issue is this:
1. You and yours claim that the arrow is visible above the backpack in two frames (ignoring the fact that there is an angle discrepancy), and acknowledge that it is not visible in all the others. You chalk all of those others up as film errors, magic shrinking arrows, and so on.
2. I show that the arrow is not visible in numerous frames. The lines above the backpack which you claim to be the arrow in the two contested frames happen to line up with the linear object which I have shown the existence of for years.
It is illogical to resist. The DVDs prove you wrong, once and for all. You can't hide behind pixellated images any longer. The facts are right before your eyes.
If he admits that the images are pixellated, then why does he say that they're clear?
If he claims that the "seam" explains the darkened pixels, then where is the seam in the frames that show nothing?
His defense for one aspect of his argument destroys another aspect of his argument.

As a newbie, i'm finding it somehow gratifying to finally debate Darkstar. I'd heard a lot about him, and now it's almost a Rite of Passage for me to debate him.
It's a bit like having a fistfight with Satan, really. There's a few weirdos out there who worship him, he is constantly used as an example of ultimate evil (stupidity), and his story shocks and frightens noobs (children).

He consistently ignores my major points, and uses fancy words and false analogies to make me look like the idiot and then calls me an 'echo' when I point out that they apply to him.
And several of us have shown him enhanced pictures of the arrow going through the neck body glove, and he repeatedly claims that we haven't shown him anything
I'm starting to see why he's regarded as a troll.

Am I reading that wrong, or did Tulkas just say that planets naturally undergo internal fusion and eventually explode?

The planet WAS completely destroyed; again, the means is irrelevant, if it can be done reliably. You're just splitting hairs-- particularly considering that the DS most likely blows up planets by simply stimulating the natural process by which planets explode when their internal fusion-processes reach critical-mass, so it's the same thing, i.e. causing the nuclei to simultaneously fuse.
"The bird let out a slow chicken cackle. It sounded like a chicken, but in her heart she knew it wasn't. In that instant, she completely understood the concept of a chicken that was not a chicken. This looked like a chicken, like most of the Mud People's chickens. But this was no chicken.

Yeah, that's his MO... accusing you of doing something wrong before you can accuse him. I always found that he hates it when you act amused at him, and act patronizingly.
