Who would you hire to build your Planetary defences?

Kuat Drive Yards, they built almost every class of imperial warships and also built the shielding for imperial worlds, not to mention they built that beauty of a warship the Eclpise-class command ship, those things are a powerhouse.

Yes and as such they know what it takes to kill a Star Destroyer

I wouldn't let the Federation Engineering Corps (or whatever they're called) run my damned diaper service....much less defend my planet. Imagine what kind of jury rigged treknobabble POS!!! that theyed manage to come up with, only to be thwarted by the first 7 year old child to lay eyes on their "defense system"

If my planet didn't have a population I'd just leave. If it did I'd want them to send a training simulator to train the needed pilots. Or go the trade fed route and use Droid fighters. Buy an automated factory that tractors in wreckage from battles and makes more fighters.

the premise states that you are just setting up camp on a new planet so no large population base to work with but you could always hire mercenaries

True, but the droid fighter factory would still work, better even since it'd be protection to get there. Though Kuat is still a better choice for fixed defenses I'd rather have settlers who are trained combat pilots, worse comes to worse we just leave.

My choice would be Risa. Unless someone is a total psychotic madman, they will send a representative down to the planet, informing them of the conquest.

The planet's representative's reponse would be to say, "Okay", and go back to lounging around the pool. The hostesses would then stop by and ask if there was anything they could do to make the invading force's time there a litle more enjoyable.

Other: Fifth Imperium Engineering Corps. Double layer hyper-shielding over an entire solar system and powered by a few hundred core-taps. Backed up by thousands of fixed hyper-missle and gravitonic disrupter platforms. No body short of the Culture is going to get through that. You could splatter fleets against that shield with all the effect of a bug hitting a windshield.

I torch the whole thing from orbit in a second, then replace it with a gargantuan mall and arcade. Inefficiencies in game power systems alone will put out more heat then a Blue super giant star..
