For fun (because I am a sick bastard), I conjured up a little Sovereign vs ISD scenario - I apologize, 'cause the numbers are pretty rough (although I slanted the numbers in favour of Trek where there was doubt) and heavily simplified.

Assumptions

ISD will fire on the Sovies only with its HTLs - MTLs and LTL's will be reserved for shooting torps. All hits will be kills.

ISD stats:
Shielding - 1TT/s sustained dissipation capability w/ 10TT reserves (i.e.
the shield dissipation must be exceeded by 10TT to drop the shields)
There are 16HTLs; they will score one hit amongst them (and thus one
kill) per second.

Sovie stats:
Torpedoes - can fire 10/s yielding 200MT each. 50 of the first 100 torpedoes per second will be shot down - the hit rate will be 100% thereafter. We will assume that the engagement is over before they run out.
Phasers - each Sov will hit the ISD with 50MT of phaser fire each second.

Results

Minimum number of Sovereigns required to dent the ISD's shielding: 493

Minimum number of Sovereigns required to win: 592

While I think the response was a tad harsh, in my opinion the people who wrote it were justified. You:
* Posted the oldest arguments in existence. I was waiting for the Outrageous Okona fallacy there at the end.
* Made several leaps in logic.
* Showed no understanding whatsoever about canon policies.
* Didn't give any point of reference to show where you got your ideas. Or in other words, you just claimed it was so because you said so.

I recommend you lurk for a while and read the website. Oh, and when you're done with that, spend some time at alt.startrek.vs.starwars to toughen your skin against flames. That works wonders, plus, it's fun!

Hmmm, he must have meant me.

Glad I already followed the suggestions before I knew about them:

-- found Wong's site over a month ago
-- read through just about every article before even checking out the BBS
-- finally decided to register 10 days ago
-- didn't even start posting until a few days after that.

While I've had a couple of just-shy-of-harsh reactions to my posts (that's no complaint towards Mr. Bean and the others, BTW, and I'm more than willing to submit to superior knowledge and experience), I figured that a) it was silly of me to get pissed off at mere text on the screen, b) I appreciate most of the time the blunt approach to pussy-footing around, and c) they didn't just tell me when I was off-base but took the time to show the evidence.

I know I'm a newbie here, and I know that there's every chance that a point I may think of has already been beaten to death, zombified, and sent back to its grave numerous times. But I'm man enough to take with humility any correction that people feel I deserve, and am actually grateful for the chance to learn new things from this BBS.

If this guy can't take it, then good riddance to bad rubbish...

I read the whole Wong site too, mainly because there wasn't a BBS yet, I think. Can't remember.

I also read the fan-fiction, but there were some points I didn't exactly agree with.
