Totally understandable. The Matrix is the worst crap I've ever seen. 2001 is a great movie concerning the great questions in life (albeit a bit sloooow at times), where do we come from and where are we heading? However, Kubrick's vision seems to differ somewhat from Clarke's. Oh, I almost forgot. Don't forget how important 2001 was for the development of good F/X. Brian Johnson, who supervised the effect works for ESB, worked on 2001 (a.o. creating the Star Child in the ending), then worked on Space: 1999 a work that GL took notice of.
