Empire. I was born in New Zealand; I don't want to get sent there for 'reeducation' by my enlightened Federation leaders.

The section called the Apotheosis of Palpatine on Publius' page will be illuminating.

they have a fuckload of ships and want people to work them. I think a motivated male could do it.

i'll take the federation. i don't really find the idea of visits from palpatine's goons or stormtroopers in the middle of the night appealing. get me a job working on risa and i'd be pretty much set.

I'd be a Imperial citiizen because as long as I dont support the rebels would be fine. I also like to own my own property unlike a certian group of communistic space hippies that I know of, and plus I could also command my own Star Destroyer if I join the Navy and dont screw up.

I think I would rather join the Empire.

I know they're evil... but they're a good kinda' evil.

Their economy is capitalist so I can buy anything I want so long as I have the money, and since you can buy your own ship you can make a fortune when you retire from the Navy.

And no one messes with the Empire, except for those loser Rebels. And there’s not a lot of them around, so chances of getting blasted by one of those losers is pretty slim.

Federation... poor Federation.

They have no property or sense of ownership.

You can’t even buy baseball cards anymore.

You can get your butt fragged by any number of people who hate the Federation and when you want to retire, you get stuck in government housing or have to move to some god awful colony world that is sure to be bombed by people who don’t like Starfleet because Starfleet sucks.

And, if you do anything wrong, they send you to a penal colony to be brainwashed and sent back home as Captain Sisko’s personal luv toy, or if you get off light, they draft your ass and put you on a ship destined to be lost in Delta quadrant.

Starfleet is pointless. Federation is pointless. I choose the Empire.
I have always been here...

Not neccesarly. From what I have read, including articles on Publius' website show that the sterotypical descriptions that we hear of the Empire are grossly exagerated. Like I said, as long as your not a criminal or support the rebels you wont get a stormtrooper squad come knocking at your door. Life for a average citizen living in the middle or inner rim was pretty good and the Empire pretty much left you alone if you followed the rules. Now if Palpy got his way...well then that would be a different story.

Federation, no question. While it has its downsides, it's far superior to living under a madman who is after what amounts to my soul.

Okay, to all you guys "I'm going to be a SD captain!" or "buy my own A-wing," let's be a little realistic here. Odds are we'll all wind up with some menial job, and cower in fear the rebellion or Emperor's wrath doesn't come to our planet and summarily wipe out millions or billions in an impersonal nature.

ignorance is bliss, neh?

and, the empire doesnt appear to be 1984 commune - its more akin to germany 1937, where there is real patritoism for der fuhrer.

as well, even peasant farmers can manage to buy interstellar ships - its not so out of place to dream of it. for sw, they seem to be the equivalent of cars.

Name one poor farmer family in the Empire which owns its own interstellar vehicle.

Can't?

Probably because they cost hundreds of thousands of credits.

They're more like private jets than cars. Landspeeders are like cars.

A used ship might cost 10-20k, plus fuel, maintenance and other costs. You'll probably need to pass some examination before being permitted to fly. This is a rather high barrier to entry for the poor, but I suspect the middle class could afford it.

Personally, I'd much rather live in the federation. Someone with their head screwed on right in that situation and some brass balls will be able to get anything they want.

Design some decent ships, start some cults, make connections with some smart people and rip off the feddies, klingons, romulans, whoever.

10,000 credits can "almost get a ship." Where is this "hundreds of thousands of credits" evidence?
