Synthehol was a TNG & after development. And even then, beverages such as Romulan Ale were still alchohol based and available to higher-ranking officers and command staff (such as TNG era redshirts) who have the connections to get their hands on the stuff.

Hmm. Perhaps. And I guess there aren't any canon examples of Imperial officers drinking (at least not that I can think of). That one could be even as well, I guess.

Well, here goes:

Tug-of-war: Not too sure about this, but I guess Imperials since they seem more well- disciplined (meaning, they probably have to do push-ups or the equivalent every day).

Pugil: Imperials, because they are trained to have a much more militaristic mindset than the Redshirts, so even if they are unfamiliar with Pugil sticks, they are still more likely to gain the upper hand just through aggression.

Drinking contest: Not too sure on this one. Probably depends on the officers, but considering how the Imperials are much more manly than the redshirts, I'd say the Imps.

P.T.: see tug-of-war. It also depends on the type of officers, too; shipboard and higher-ranking officers would probably not be as good as, say infantry (stormtrooper officers, etc) or those deployed on the death star or a planet's surface.

Cage match: Again depends on several factors. If the imperials start getting clever with the use of certain leather accessories on their uniforms such as belts and gloves/gauntlets, and if their boots have features such as steel toes, hobnails, or heel irons, then definitely the Imperials.
So remember when you're feeling very small and insecure,
how amazingly unlikely is your birth,
and pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
'cause there's bugger-all down here on Earth!

Imperials. Fed ships are dry, whereas I can imagine a daily rum ration being handed out on the Imperial fleet.
Everyone's forgetting that we're talking about Redshirts, meaning TOS era, when they actually drank alcohol rather than "synethol".

The Imps are too hautain for this sport for peasants and forfait. Redshirts win
2. Pugil
Beat the shit out of each other with giant Q-tips.
The Imps remember their lessons in strategy and use for co-ordinated attacks to beat the shit out of the redshirts. One redshirt dies of his wounds
3. Beer Drinking Contest
No regurgitation, last man standing wins.
About evenly matched would it not be that 1 redshirt dies of alcohol poisoning. Since they already lost a guy in the previous match, Imps have statistacly the highest chance of having the last man standing
4. PT test
The next morning after paying appropriate homage to the porcelain shrine, the contestants must participate in a PT test. I'll use the Army's since that's what I'm familiar with. It consists of three main events, push-ups, sit-ups, and a 2 mile run.
Indeterminate. One redshirt gets caught and eaten by a bunch of Ewoks during the 2 mile run tough
5. Steel cage match! :D
Hmm... 9 surviving redshirts vs 12 sissy Imps. I'll leave this one for the bookies

Han solo drinks a bit and he is an ex-imperil officer.

Hmm just thought about another factor: those stiff boots from the imperial officers. They'll be a blessing in the cage match (hard kickining) but a curse during the 2 mile run

it's possible that the Empire has better boot for cross country use (Veers had armor in Hoth after all)

On the Vulcans: maybe. Can we have 12 of the (new, improved) clones of Major Grodin Tierce?

Seriously (as serious about this as we can be), I think Tarkin is in the group, and no one wins because the arena was actually in the Death Star and it gets blown up halfway through match 1
