The ban is perm this time, nothing I can do about it, it was your deal. You had plenty of warnings, ultimatums, etc etc etc.

That confirms it. Unless he goes off to greener pastures and returns with an army of trekkies(which is highly unlikely), I do believe that this is the end of an era.

Rationality prevails again. :D

So now we know that the fuse for dumbshit Trekkies on sw.com is only about 500 times longer than it was for MoO. Hooray.

Moose has actually come out and made a point in our favor, in response to one "The Kenobi" staiting this:
Im 31, have been in love with BOTH franchises since their inception, ( Trek in reruns during the mid 70s, missed it first time around bleh ), and I don't even have a passion for Trek anymore. It's dying. The point being as an objective fan of BOTH series over half my life, the debate is really a non-issue to me. Trek technology hands down. No scenario I can entertain can put Wars technology on top. I think those that argue for Wars, are missing the point Lucas tried very hard to craft and push. Star Wars technology ISNT supposed to be futuristic. It is supposed to be slightly off contemporary technology. Bullets are lasers, capital ships are naval vessels, landspeeders are cars, etc etc etc ad nauseum.

Unlike some of the stories told in Trek , you could easily pull everything out of Star Wars and put it in contemporary times and it would still work. Heck, you could even make it OLDER

DM, suprisingly, responded:
To expound on this a little bit, my personal take on it is that it's futuristic technology, but viewed from a different perspective. (CPOV rears its ugly head, yes)

Whereas ST technology is the very latest, steeped in the latest techno-babble, sleek and inventive in form, SW technology is commonplace, old, battered, not worthy of comment, and I think in many cases taken for granted. GL had a vision of what he calls the "Used Future", where things aren't shiney, and technology is essentially stagnant. Every major innovation that would be invented has been invented for all practical purposes.

Hyperdrive is eons old. Artificial Intelligence is as old as history itself. Lasers, limitless and powerful energy sources, anti-gravity - all plentiful and part of everyday life. no big whoop.

It's not that it's not futuristic. It's just not particularly amazing to them. So like you say, lasers are bullets, landspeeders are cars, Star Ships are old naval vessels, everything we take for granted in our existance is what they take for granted in theirs, only in their advanced context.

And since it is a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, we can only assume it is essentially the same in Star Trek's time, barring some calamity. Whereas Star Trek technology is about advancement, Star Wars technology is about history.

It's the difference between looking at a future history and a historical future.
Suprisingly, I find this to be a well made point. I kinda wish DM wasn't a mod, he seems like he'd be all right if he didn't have any powers to abuse.

"Bullets are lasers, Lanspeeders are cars, Ships are naval vessels,"...

What does this have to do with their capabilities?

Note that it wasn't Dark Moose that finally ended DMJ. DM would have let that fuckwit stay on forever as long as DMJ sucked his ass clean.

Hey partner this is Jay (DMJ) from the starwars website, I feel I was banned for B.S. reasons if you would post a thread to the Mods and request that I be allowed back on, Dark Moose won't answer me about this.

Can you help me out? Never hurts to ask.

Good idea. Tell him that he can continue the discussion on a site with responsible mods and admins, and that no one really needs SW.com, anyway. See what he does. :)

I suggest you do to him something similar to what Aron Kerkhof did to Tim Jones a while back.
Aron Kerkhof wrote:On Friday, September 10th, 1999 the skies darkened and thunder rolled as Timothy fired off a e-mail complaint to galactec.com, the server the hosts my mail account, suggesting they take the "appropriate actions" against me. There was one small problem. Timothy is too stupid to realize that I am my own ISP! I own, control, operate, and otherwise call the shots when it comes to my server galactec.com. And that's where he sent the email, to "sysop" and "administrator" @galactec.com. You might want to view the entire email exchange before you continue. It's absolutely hilarious. And it moves us to our next point. Go read it. Now!

Guys, can't you see what was going on there? Seriously, comon...I expected more out of you.

IT WAS A JOKE!

That's seriously the only explanation out there. After "only" reading 20 pages or so, I saw just about every fallacy and retarded thing that *WE MAKE FUN OF EVERYDAY*

I fully believe this was someone who is experienced in these debates, and knows what to do to push people's buttons.

No one perpetuates a joke for months on end. A prankster will say "gottcha" after far less time.

Dark Master Jay has been arguing for years, the same old shit over and over again. Like Servo said, no one would keep that up for kicks.

Well, no normal person would. In the realm of certain unmentionable trekkies, it seems anything goes.
