Its possible in the ESB scene that there was feedback damage in the ship and the lights flared in the location the captain was at. That causes him to throw up his arm and turn his head to protect his eyes. Further damage then cut the holonet transmission between the captain and the Executor.

The engines were shot to shit. There are flame plumes visible as it crashes.
It is not widely recognized that the whole dorsal surface of the ship is pockmarked with damage and flame plumes BEFORE the tower dome is taken out by fighters. It's pretty obvious when you look at it on laserdisc, and I suspect that when the DVD's finally come out, people will finally notice this. Years of VHS-quality SW have allowed people to pretend that the ship was perfectly intact until those fighters hit it.

Seems fairly convincing.

This proves the other shield sections were out well before the bridge's personal shielding was killed.

Thats fairly reasonable. The Executor was experiencing shield holes and it explains how it died so quickly.

Darth Wong wrote:As for the incident in question, I need to review it again. Are those lights shining through from the Executor, or are they glowing debris from the impact? And the question of where all this material went does bear repeating given this interpretation; the asteroid simply isn't carrying enough energy to vapourize that much metal, and the blast would be much brighter if that were the case anyway.
That is why I am inclined to believe that the asteroid crumpled the forward section of the bridge. Requires much less energy and explains why there was little debris from the bridge itself.

Much as people dislike DarkStar, that thread was very useful on this particular subject.

Those images do seem to line up, although it could be that the ISD is turning, which would explain it.

Again though, I doubt the bridge vaporized.
If you don't ask, how will you know?

Not to doubt your credibility, but can you get a screenshot?
