How long for a Trek flotilla to down a planetary shield?
Assuming that they are not interrupted by enemy ships for the duration of the bombardment, how long would it take for, say, the Romulan fleet from "The Die Is Cast" to bring down a standard Star Wars planetary shield?
Diocletian had the right idea.

Until the shield runs out of fuel.

well considering that the Acclamator troop transports are more then a match to pretty much any ST ship (and those aren't even "true" warships) and any full scale planetary shield needs a large fleet of warships bombarding it for a rather long time (days at least) or a trick to fall. it's safe to say we would talking about millenia at least for ST ships (aka the shield generators would probably fall due mechanical failure sooner then the bombarment)
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

Thanks for the answers. I knew before I made this thread that it would take years, and the fleet would undoubtedly run out of fuel and torpedoes a hundred times over before the shields dropped, but I really wanted to know if there was any way to get a relatively accurate idea of the timeframe required. I'm utterly ignorant about scientific matters and lack the know-how to compute it.
