Question for DarkStar concerning his placement for Kamino

Post by Angelicus »

DarkStar,
I was curious if you considered the possibility that the display zooms to some point on the other side of the core :?: I noticed that your website doesn't mention this.

I have to go to work and have no access to a computer there {sometimes being in Security really bites} But I will check the board as soon as I get home.

On the page (which, you may have noticed, has "unfinished, up for reference" as a preface on the main page), all I say is "you can see that the zoom-in is toward the center of the galaxy". I don't make any distance claims there. On here, though, I have ventured rough estimates.

The zoom occurs so rapidly it is difficult to determine just where it is stopping. That is why I give a ~10,000 light year margin of error from dead center. However, given the angle at which we see the galaxy, there simply isn't going to be much in front of or behind the core area for us to look at except empty space.

Course, the problem is that the zoom ends in the Unknown Regions, so that page is rather pointless as to the Republics size.

Why? There are clusters of stars that exist outside of the main galactic disc that are still part of that galaxy. These clusters could encompass as many as several thousand stars.
