A disturbing theory about ST weapons figures

Post by Rathark »

Remember, this is just a theory, but it has been haunting me for a while.

Have you ever wondered why Federation starship phasers have such laughably low power readings as 5.1 megawatts?

Have you ever wondered why, in one episode of NG (I've forgotten which), the Enterprise-D braces itself for an assault of a mighty 4 kilojoules?

I have a suspicion that many of the ST writers were so ignorant of scientific measurement that they assumed that MEGAWATTS and MEGAJOULES and (God forbid) MEGATONS were EXACTLY THE SAME THING!!!!!

Can you imagine a SW novel in which the heavy turbolasers of an ISD are described as each having "a mighty 200 gigawatts!!!!"

In a sense, ST has been commiting exactly the same goof over and over again.

We should be grateful that we have the cross sections book to settle things ...

But ...

I have it on good authority that the heaviest guns of an ISD have a mighty 2 kilowatts of power output. :D

Here's the URL:

http://home.att.net/~tomjlee/starwars/index.html

The site appears to neatly sum up a great number of standard means of boosting ST over SW, including implying that the DS superlaser is a primitive antiproton weapon that disrupts the electromagnetic coherence of target planets, as well as stating that the SW galaxy is a small satellite galaxy of a dwarf galaxy.

2 kilowatts wouldn't even inspire a T-rex to scratch its arse.

And I love the way he says that the Death Star Superlaser is a mighty 5 gigawatts!!! Oh my God, the awesome firepower almost rivals a WW2 battleship!!!!

Then again, we could always pretend that the entire SW universe is populated by microscopic people (like one mentioned in The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy), and that the Death Star is really 1 m wide, and the planets are generally the size of today's office blocks ...

No, wait, some Trekkies might start taking that seriously ...

I'm glad you liked the link. :D

It's quite a fascinating site, and it's obvious that an incredible level of work went into trying to shoehorn Star Wars in far below Star Trek in terms of firepower and protection. It's not remotely convincing, but it seems sincere.

likewise, there were doubtless several other Super Star Destroyers present at the Battle of Endor, as indicated by Admiral Ackbar's order to "Concentrate all fire on that Super Star Destroyer" as opposed to "the Super Star Destroyer").
wha?

Luckily, though, this fellow is not spamming these boards with triaxially rotating ignorance fields and is safely curled up in his own little website.

At least, I hope that's the case.

Did you check out his version of the Star Wars Galaxy? Everything is lumped within a 100ly diameter directly in the Galactic Core!!!

Plus his firepower ratings for the Starfleet ships is extremely laughable (And I love his isomegaton and isogigaton doubletalk!)

My god...

Anyone else notice that, according to him, Wars ships don't even have shields, just polarized hull plating like the Akiraprise features?

Hyperdrive CORE?! :x WTF?! You don't meausure the hyperdrive's core you measure the HYPERDRIVE!! AARRGGHH!! It sounds so much like the warp core, it's making me sick!
And those type 3b repeating blaster @ 40 watts looks pretty impressive (not).
And what good would a polarized hull plating do to a turbolaser blast?

He author of that page must have come up with that crap all by himself, while laying in his bed and thinking of the "hot" borg-queen!

The Death Star would likely still have enough power on that scale to destroy Trek ships..

Wow. Now the Sovereign class is capable of 200 megacee and has shields with a peak energy dissipation rate of 1 exayottawatt, and a 4.92e60 J "instantaneous directed KE capacity".

Baaah, the most rabid trekkie's wettest dream. I don't know what's worse, his transition of ST terms on SW tech (hyperdrive core) or his 'arguments' for trek - while those arguments are nothing but this guy jacking off and then presenting the cum as proof that ST is better than SW.

*Looks at the web site

Lungs collapsing... Lack oxygen laughing so hard.....
427,424 Ships
Hmm at an avarage of 8000 people per ship(Fair asumpiton unlike everything else there) 34,193,920,000 Crewers total
So 34 Billion people over 150 Planets 22,795,946 citizins of every planet must be on a Star-Ship Some-where

................
LOL
Espcialy considering we know thier Eight Most poplated Planet has just over a million people on it. I wonder where everyone else went?(Does this mean Picard Family are the only ones left on earth running the planet while the other 99% of the Popluation is off on a Star-Ship?)

I like the way this idiot, actually make that Quantum phase polarity inverted idiot core totally ignores the cannon evidence that the Dominion is bigger than the federation

Get this, he establishes the location and size of the Star wars galaxy aby using E.T. Yes ET the extra terrestrial!

therefore he is admitting that SW hyperdrive can reach the federation.
