The Prometheus - what we think

What's the verdict on the USS Prometheus' design?

Poll ended at 2002-09-12 03:21pm

It kicks ass. The multi-vectral attack mode is the only sensible course of action and should be incorporated in every new SF design.

It looks pretty, and the effects are solid. I don't care much beyond that.

It's okay, I guess. Looks much like any other Star Trek ship.

This is one of the most stupid designs in the history of Trek, and makes zero sense.

The USS Prometheus. Pictures can be found at Daystrom Institute. What does everyone think about the design?

Ugh. A link to the Trekkie Masturbating Institute.
Well, ship fullfills it's purpose. And would be a fun to shoot down using the light and medium guns.

Hear me out. I used the Dark Page, but to bring about good. The Net is a tool for both good and evil. It is merely the way you use it that matters.

I am confident I can delve deep within the Daystrom Institute without my mind being corrupted.

I think it's a massive gimmick, an extension of a design concept that was poor in the first place - the E-D separation (typical of the Feddies).
The Multi Vector Assault Mode comes under computer control, right?
What would happen under heavy jamming with the three sections unable to co-ordinate? I don't think it would be pretty.

Linked to Portal? You are misinformed, Obi-Bean. The link was actually made by someone who controls Stardestroyer.net. A Sith who goes by the name of Darth Sidious.

It has an okay design (although it looks a little too similar to a battlestar for my tastes).

Other than that, it's a dumb concept for a war ship. Why not just build three individual ships and launch them as a group. "Surprise Tactic"? Don't make me laugh. At the most an ISD captain would react: "What...? Oh, I see. Fire."

It's from a Voyager episode.

I don't think GK has the audacity to make up a whole ship.

Now that I think about it, the fact that the ship was boarded and taken over by Romulan commandos despite being a top secret experimental ship says something both about it and the morons who ran it..

The fact it employs some armour, heavier shields, and apparantly an assload of firepower, as well as being very maneuverable(By comparison to another Trek ship it's bulk), says that as far as Trek ships go, it's gonna ream some asses.

But against Wars it's just another target.

the idea is good but it would be cheaper just to build 3 seperate ships as a squadron and deploy them togather.

I agree. It is just plain stupid. Instead of having more ships the Feddies come up with one that must cost more in effort and resources than it is worth.

Multi Vector Assault? How about just adding decent fighters to their ships?

That would give them their multiple vectors without the overly complicated crap.
I do find it cool from a research standpoint but if they were actually planning on manufacturing it...

Basically the only reason it did well against the Romulans is because it is 3 ships in one. I doubt it would take the other races long to juice up the power on their main cap ships to deal with stuff like the Prometheus. Maybe it would only take something as simple heavy jamming.

Problem is that, while the ship's parts are joined together, several phaser strips are actually obscured.
