Gah, yeah, thats pulverization...That's more than we'd ever seen an Imperial Star Destroyer do. Imperial stardestroyer pulverizes a 40 meter asteroid while a Romulan bird of prey destroyed an asteroid at least 2 miles in diameter in one shot.

Either that or he's just degraded to trolling by throwing out statements that make no sense, he's never bothered to prove this either.Darth Wong wrote:So he figures that an Imperial Star Destroyer is orders of magnitude LESS powerful than Slave-1?
But hey, this is the guy that thinks that slave-1's lasers are only 0.092KT because a nuke detonating in basalt and granite created a 27m retarc.

Wasn't a nuke, was a magna-reverb missle. That's why there was such a funny noise after it's detonation. The galaxy class Enterprise-D, the most powerful ship at the time could not destroy a 2 km wide asteriod in "pegasus". What is the name of the episode that featured the bird of prey ? I have not seen it yet.His Divine Shadow wrote:I swear, he's just trolling now, just posting shit to try and get a rise out of people:Gah, yeah, thats pulverization...That's more than we'd ever seen an Imperial Star Destroyer do. Regarding the ISD "pulverizing" a 40 meter asteriod the star destroyer was using it point defense guns not turbolasers.
Re: More CM nonsense
The Bird of Prey episode he's referring to is "Balance of Terror" (TOS). In this episode, a Romulan Bird of Prey destroyed Federation Asteroid Base 4 with two attack runs. AB4 was reportedly buried almost a mile beneath the surface of the asteroid, and the asteroid is supposedly nickel-iron. The first attack destroyed the base's defenses, and the second pulverised the asteroid itself.evilcat4000 wrote:The galaxy class Enterprise-D, the most powerful ship at the time could not destroy a 2 km wide asteriod in "pegasus". Spock describes the Romulan weapon as an "enveloping plasma, forcing an implosion". The fact that an implosion occurred implies that AB4 was largely hollow.
If we assume a solid nickel-iron asteroid with a diameter of 4 km, the Asteroid Destruction Calculator gives us the following energy estimates.
Melt: 80 GT
Vaporize: 480 GT
Crater: 302 MT
Fragmenting an igneous rock asteroid of this size with a buried explosive would take 64 MT.
Since the asteroid was "pulverized", we can safely write off the melting and vaporization figures, leaving us with a 302 MT high-end estimate for the firepower of the Romulan weapon (high end because we calculated the value for a solid target, even though we know that the actual target was largely hollow).

What does "enveloping plasma, forcing an implosion" actualy mean?
"Enveloping" as in surrounds the target before hitting? If so couldn't the "forcing an implosion" actualy refer to the weapon striking the target after envoloping it?
Just wondering because the hollow asteroid makes little sense. I doubt that there a hollow natural asteroids, which means that the Feddies would have to have hollowed this asteroid out intentionaly. Which either means that the asteroid was hollowed out to make room for the base, but that would mean that the base in the asteroid was truly massive by Trek standards and it doesn't make much sense for a border outpost to be that large. Or that they base is small and sort of hanging in the center of the asteroid with cables or support beams, but why on earth would the Feddies hollow out the asteroid like that before building a small base there?

A straightforward interpretation would be that it somehow surrounds the target and exerts force, crushing the target.Sir Sirius wrote:What does "enveloping plasma, forcing an implosion" actualy mean?
Spock described all of this together as the destructive mechanism. Apparently, when the Romulan weapon strikes, the plasma surrounds the target and somehow constricts.Sir Sirius wrote:"Enveloping" as in surrounds the target before hitting? I think it's obvious that they hollowed it intentionally. They need spaces for people to live and work, for the power supply, for the weapons and defenses, for sensors and communications, for access to the various systems to do maintenance and repairs; there will be a quite a bit of deliberate hollowing going on, although an asteroid that include natural hollow spaces would simplify the work.Sir Sirius wrote:Just wondering because the hollow asteroid makes little sense. It's difficult to say just how much of the asteroid is hollow as a percentage of its total volume, but treating it as a solid iron asteroid is definitely putting some generosity into equations related to its destruction. Lets not forget that this base also has a power supply and weapons that can contribute to the destruction (assuming they're as volatile as similar components of a starship).

You have already posted in one of his 'threads'. Crossover Maniac. Wild claims, no evidence and then when others dig up the references he bases his arguments on, they alway favour the opposition. In short a very poor debator.TurboPhaser wrote:Who is CM? I'm not into the inter-forum wars much.

Actually they could destroy it, they said it would take most of their photon torps to do so. And this asteroid had to be far larger than just 2km wide, at a minimum it HAD to be at least 6km wide just from what was said in the episode.evilcat4000 wrote:The galaxy class Enterprise-D, the most powerful ship at the time could not destroy a 2 km wide asteriod in "pegasus". Assuming the were in the very center, that puts the asteroid minimum at 6km, possibly larger as they may not have been in center
