Does anyone in 24 century Trek have a sense of Humor?

Post by THEHOOLIGANJEDI »

I was watching the Voyager (ugh!) episode "Author Author" and I can to the conclusion that no one in the 24th century has a sense of humor at all. That Episode just aggavated he to the extreme. What did all of you think of it??

Some eps. of TNG, DS9, and VOY have shown me that humour in the 24th Century actually got dumber. Serriously, there's some really lame stuff.

The humour of the police officers in Demolition Man is better than those weiners from Star Trek.

They don't even make puns! A world without puns?! What kind of world is that?!

No sense of humour, or one which is horribly stilted and lame? Of course. After all, what can you expect of a people who are evidently under therapy from cradle to grave?

Almost makes you think that, 100 years earlier, the androids of Planet Mudd really did take over the galaxy.

It's an entirely subjective issue. There are episodes I've found funny (The Naked Time from TOS, The Naked Now from TNG, The Magnificent Ferengi from DS9, to name a few), some that were meant to be funny but didn't amuse me.

I'd like just to see one guy going around the E-E stoned out of his mind and grabbing everyone who passes by in a headlock going "I love ya, ya little fucker, I love ya! That's how much I have for you god damnit! WOO! "

The sad thing is, if they told them to do that, they would.

I never saw that one, but I did see a certain TNG movie.

You're right, there is very little humor in Trek. There have been a couple times that it has been humorous, such as Trails And Tribbleations. Generations had a couple humerous points, such as when data gets his emotion chip. When the Ent D is going down the normally quiet and reserved Data lets out a very emotional Oh Sh&t! that is really pretty funny.

Also I belive there was acutal a half-way funny verison of Voyager when the Docotor starts dreaming and aliens tap in thinking they are seeing whats going on around Voyager, but instead they see the Doctor ego gratification

Imagine being stuck on the same ship with Wesley or Janeway for seven years. You would be more inclined to commit suicide than crack a joke.

I think I'd probably be more like Barclay. I'd create a holodeck world where I'm the boss, and I get to go around slapping some sense into people.

Especially Riker.

Is that the one with the Emergency Command Hologram and the uber-weapon (positronic beam cannon?) that blows Borg cubes in one shot?

IIRC, it was a holo-programme of the Doctor's where he basically went nuts and a whole bunch of stuff happens.

I'd actually like to know when my local affiliate airs it, since I've heard it's quite funny.

Voyager would have been a better show if the whole cast had been replaced by Larry, Curly & Mo. At least then we could have had nose twisting & monkey wrenches.

I don't remember most of TNG, and I purged VOY from my memory ban --- err, brain, but First Contact wasn't so much evidence against humor as it was proof that colloquial English has changed over 300 years.

Another thing I noticed, was that in TOS they have machines to mine dilitium, now they use slave-holograms

ST doesn't use nicknames anymore, either. Riker is called Will rather than Bill, which is a lot more fun. Geordi is screaming to be shortened to G. Yo, G, whassup? Wesley was Wes, that's about as close as we ever saw to a real nickname.
