Jerry Goldsmith Rules. But I do prefer the Original Version of this theme from Star Trek the Motion Picture. Although I wasn't too fond of his Voyager theme, but it's getting better to me. Dennis McCarthy Sucks even for a TV composer, Ron Jones is far superior in my book.

Do the moves I-VI count as TOS?

I think that all of the movies with the original cast had their own individual theme music, with ST: TMP's theme being redone and used for TNG.

Best theme...

Well TWOK was damn good by James Horner. TMP by Goldsmith was good, but the remake for Final Frontier was good. Hell, the music was one of the few good things about that god awful movie. They did a decent job reusing it for TNG, but the TNG version had to many "highlights" and was to short. The TNG movie theme in both FC and ST:I were good though, but those are just altered version of the Final Frontier theme.

I thought that several of the Original Cast films also had good ending music. Particularly I am think of IV and VI. I don't remember the rest that well.

My favorite theme music from the shows, and shows only, was DS9. I don't know why but it's my favorite trek theme.

Which version did you like? I believe the music was all the same but some of the arangements were a little different.

I think there were 3 versions. The original, an overdone stereo version (came out about the time B5 really go popular) and then a more subdued stereo version that was used for the last few years.

Probably the earliest version. I stopped watching it when the station started juggling the show around too much. I ended up missing so much that I couldn't follow it after a while.

The original version. I was talking to Chris O'Farrell earlier about this. The sound of the lone trumpet really strongly emphasizes the idea of a station in the middle of nowhere and gives a real flare of frontier.

I'd have to agree as well. The first one was the best followed by the third one. They just went overboard with the second version.

I'm gonna vote for Voyager. Time and time again, I've found myself watching Voyager's beautiful title sequence, with that pleasing theme - and then hurriedly switching channels as soon as the actual episode starts.

I'd say DS9

Well If the movies are involved, the I'll have to say Star Trek The Motion Picture. Initially I first heard the TNG theme and Loved it, but when I heard the TMP theme, It totally blew the TNG theme out of the water. I loved that it didn't have the overused TOS fanfare in it. I just love how it begins with the percussion and a hint of the Enterprise theme. Epic stuff!!

I really like the themes to both TNG and DS9. I cannot believe that B&B did not even leave the THEME SONG alone for Enterprise. Seriously, it is not a ST sound track. It is just a twisted and distorted version of ST. When I first saw it I had to flip the channel to make sure I was actually watching a ST show. I'm not sure I've really gone back to watching it since then.

I'm frightened at how much I've agreed with you today, OSSUS. I cannot stand the theme song for Enterprise. The show itself is great, imho. I always have to turn when the opening credits roll.

BTW, first episode of 2nd season tonight... was really good. Not as much philosophical bs as DS9 and Voy. At least they fight.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but hear me out.

I voted for Enterprise, for the simple fact that it's not a rip-off of Courage's original theme. I like the TOS theme, but the other series' keep re-using it. ST constantly self-plaguarizes, and the NX-01 itself is probably the worst example. I'm not a fan of the lyrics, even though they do reflect the attitudes of the Earthers in "Broken Bow." I do like the music and the images under the credits, and it's good to see ST doing something, anything, different from what they've done before.

Granted, different is good... sometimes.

But, what if when the title for Episode 3 were to come on screen and you didn't hear that first brass chord, would you even believe it was a Star Wars movie?

The point I'm trying to make here is that there is a specific "theme" for Star Trek. When you hear that theme, you KNOW you're watching a ST show. The Enterprise theme doesn't do that, at least not for me. It makes me think I'm watching Dawson's Creek or some other rediculous kiddy show.
