I used the board's search utility, and was unable to find any reference to what I'm about to ask; I wanted to make sure I wasn't posting something that hadn't already been beaten to death. So here goes:
We all know that there is really no contest between the UFP and the Galactic Empire in any kind of military engagement.Firepower, tactics, shields, technology, you name it ; the Empire wins, hands down, virtually every time.
However, there are some who continue to insist that the UFP might put up some shadow of a struggle against the titanic force that is the Imperial Starfleet. Therefore I continue to research methods by which an already overwhelming Imperial advantage becomes inescapable, and I believe I have found one.
According to several sources (namely the EG:WT and a few novels) the Republic/Empire has had subspace technologies for some time; we use them for a variety of applications such as long-range FTL sensors and medium range FTL communications. This implies a fairly comprehensive mastery of the medium.
In Star Trek, there is a particular type of technobabble referred to as a verteron particle. These particles have some very detrimental effects on local subspace, and effectively render devices and technologies which depend on subspace useless.(Re: Episode, Force of Nature) On board a Federation starship, such disruption effectively renders the vessel a dead hulk in space, since everything from the Warp drive to the main computer relies on some kind of interaction with subspace to function.
Perhaps I'm making too great a leap here, but since verteron particles are SO disruptive to subspace-based systems, and we've been using the subspace medium for quite some time, I'd think it highly likely that Imperial scientists and technicians would be at least aware of its existence. And once our sensor logs /spies/ inspections of captured vessels reveal just how dependent Federation starships are on the subspace medium, its not too much to expect perhaps a refitted Immobilizer or perhaps a Dominator -class Star Destroyer with high-power Verteron-field projectors being fielded shortly thereafter.
I realize I've gone beyond "canonically verifiable" and into a hypothetical situation here, but I was wondering what you folks thought of such a thing.

The Empire has some subspace technology, including sensors and communications arrays. It is unclear exactly what the capabilities of these technologies are, but an ISD can scan all of subspace in a reasonably short amount of time.

IIRC, it was in ICS.Stormtrooper THX-1138 wrote:Yes, I remember that, I think it said something about being able to scan over three hundred subspace frequencies simultaneously, and go all the way up and down the spectrum in less than an hour... I don't remember exactly, I'll have to look that up.

I just had quick look in the original trilogy ICS and the ISD entry makes no mention of its sensor suite at all, I checked the AOTC ICS too in the Acclamators entry and again nothing.

I looked up where I saw that reference to an ISD's communications gear
"In contrast, an Imperial Star Destroyer's Seinar Fleet Systems Ranger transciever has a transmission range of over one hundred light years. The reciever can monitor more than three hundred different subspace frequencies simultaneously; by altering frequencies every tenth of a second, the Ranger scans the entire subspace spectrum in less than three hours."

I realize that the EGs arent the best source in the world, but its the only place I've ever seen with any substantive data on the subject.
