Is the ST VOY Behind the Scenes TM Canon?

Post by MKSheppard »

I downloaded a copy of what appears to be the first season TM used
by the scriptwriters of ST:VOY, and it looks to be good.

Question, since it was used by the writers, would this be canon?

Oh yes, it has a quote that goes:
"Trek has always prided itself for scientific accuracy"

Don't laugh Shep. The tech consultants behind the show try their best. If something is a little far out there they try and leave it undescribed so that they can't be nailed. The biggest problem is when the writers ignore the tech consultants.

Which is ALL THE FUCKING TIME!

PS. A lot of the tech consultants don't actually know too much anyway. Sternbach and Okuda have art backgrounds. I've E-mailed Sternbach before and he seems like a nice guy who's genuinely trying, but without the appropriate background, he's still not qualified to do it. Although I agree that the writers' intransigence is the larger problem.

Sternbach and Okuda at least AFAIK try to keep trek consistent internally,
but the writers fuck 'em over repeatedly.

There's the tale of one of the tech consultants for TNG.

God only knows what the show would have been like if they had no tech consultant whatsoever...

In addition to some of the writers not caring that much, you also get B&B who will often and happily overule writers because they are simply too lazy.

I mean during the drafting and writing for the Enterprise pilot 'Broken Bow', no less then three senior people approached Braga and spoke up on the horrible mess with the given warp speeds, distance to the Klingon homeworld e.t.c. Braga told them that no-one cared about this kind of detail and he sure as hell wasn't changing any of it, now the next item on the agenda...

Wonderful people we have here at the top ensuring they listen to the people they PAY to catch them on these things...

Oddly the best part is the link ot the ST particle Zoo. I think Mike might want to ask if he can mirror it because nothing is quite so funny as scrolling down past dozens of the Particles of the Week.
